Blood loss up to 15 week - cervical incompetence - private care

My wife has been experiencing blood loss throughout her pregnancy and is now at 15 weeks. It has ranged from light spotting to quite heavy loss with clots ( sorry to be gruesome).

We have been in regular touch with nhs midwives etc who have been very good at dolling out the platitudes but it was not until very recently when we were told we could not see a nhs consultant and paid to see a private consultant that my wife was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix. She is currently in hospital (NHS) on bed rest and taking progesterone pesaries as prescribed by the private consultant.

My concern is two fold....

1
Will the pessaries work?
The NHS staff were very dismissive of them to the
extent that they would not provide them, fortunately ASDA had some in their 24 hour pharmacy.

If anyone has recent experience of using these I would
love to hear from you....

2
Of most concern is what effect this early bleeding could have had on the baby. The midwives keep saying "these things happen" and " I'm sure everything will be ok". The trouble is I'm not so sure and have very little confidence in what they say after the way my wife has been treated.

Can anyone reassure me?

Finally....

We are so worried about the level of care that my wife has received that we are seriously considering continuing to pay to go privately to The MUMS Clinic at Solihull?

We would like to hear if anyone has had good or bad
experiences of the Clinic?

Sorry for the long winded post! I have never been accused of being concise!

Thank you in anticipation

Hi, I can't help a lot with most of your questions but didn't want to leave your post unanswered, but my sister has an incompetent cervix. She sadly lost her first baby 22 years ago at 5 months as until after her miscarriage her condition was undiagnosed.

In her 3 subsequent pregnancies she had a stitch put in the entrance to her cervix which was removed at the start of her labour. She was told the stitch was a precaution but would not ensure a healthy pregnancy, bed rest and avoiding any exertion, resting if she had cramps, and generally being off her feet as much as possible was recommended.

Happily she went on to have 3 children after her first loss who were all carried to term (last one weighed 9lbs 6!) She did have early stage bleeding with two of them but they were born totally healthy.

Hope you get more help, your care sounds very poor, no wonder you are thinking of going private. I hope someone can come along with some experience of MUMS Clinic which you may find helpful in making your decision.

Has your wife had a transvaginal scan to look at her cervix? What did that show?

Now she is in an NHS hospital she should be getting reviewed every day by an NHS consultant on their rounds. Is this happening?

Thereis no evidence to show progesterone pessaries work at maintaining a pregnancy. Hence why you cannot get them for this purpose on the NHS.
