Really painful ribs

I have had painful ribs for quite a few weeks now. It is only on my left hand side below my breast. It is killing me and feels like someone has thumped me there and I am very badly bruised. I have to massage it/rub it all the time.

I don't think it can be the babies feet as I don't think they would be that high. More like squished organs? But is it normal to have it in such a localised area and for the pain to be so intense?

any cause for concern or is this completely normal. I really don't want to ignore something that isn't normal.

How far along are you?

When I was pregnant with DS, I was in agony under my ribs. I could hardly breathe because of the pain. I couldn't sit at all comfortably. DS was big and it was nearer the end but it was quite a few weeks of it.

I am 28 weeks. It hurts so much - like a burning sensation almost.

Worth mentioning to your midwife if you are worried, but I did have it and it was total agony!

I had the same thing and there are occasional other posters who have the same complaint - but not everyone gets it. But there doesn't seem to be a general consensus as to what exactly it was /is.

I wasn't sure if it was the baby's foot either as the baby moved a lot and the pain was constant. Any kind of sitting was agony and even lying on my left side. So... the advice was try not to slouch, get a ball to sit upright on, and lean over, go on all fours and do yoga stretches arching your back and then dropping down. Take off your bra! Move around a lot. Also the midwives suggested arnica.

So I would say it is normal and really really painful but def check with the mw. When the baby drops it goes but also maybe before if you can go swimming and do yoga (which I couldn't as I was working til 36 weeks).

It will go at some point - I hope soon.

Thank you - I may try the arnica and have been thinking about getting an exercise ball as it would be good for my sore back too.

yes definitely get one then. Get the right size for your height though (knees level or below hips etc).
