any nursery decorating ideas...?

We are in a fairly poky house, so the third bedroom that will be used for the baby-to-be is really small. Off the top of my head, I think it's around 2.8 x 3.5 metres or thereabouts. There is one window on the centre of a shorter wall, and the door is to side of the wall opposite.

So, we are needing some ideas to make the most of the space.
The furniture we are leaning towards at the moment in maple in colour - i.e. pale wood effect, and consists of a cotbed, fairly narrow wardrobe and changing table (which is just a chest of drawers with a changing thing on top (which is removable when the baby is too big).

Any suggestions as to what we can do to make the most of the space? e.g. colour suggestions for the walls/blind/curtains etc?

I dont want white furniture, as thats how my now 5yo son's room was/is, and i'm getting sick of looking at it now, so would like something warmer. Wall colours - I'd rather not have baby blue (yes, it's a boy), but am happy enough with smoky grey or something similar, but any ideas would be very welcome!

Many thanks!

how about all white walls and then injecting colour with wall decal stickers - Habitat has some lovely ones that aren't too twee. And Cath Kidston have the vintage looking cowboy ones which i adore:

My husband won't let me have wall paper but i've always just loved this wall paper, it's pricey but again perhaps white walls and then one feature wall of wallpaper, i think the dinosaur ones are adorable for boys, i also like the hand shadow one aswell:

also Notonthehighstreet.com has the dinosaur paper print on sale for £58.50:

I also love these ceiling bouncers and i have them in my daughters room, tho i always thought if i had a little boy i would have gone for some sea creatures:

I find a lot of inspiration on these two sites:

projectnursery.com/

I also took this idea of have a wall of letters from Project Nursery which gets a lot of compliments:

I found some lovely letters at www.urbanoutfitters.co.uk (the home and gift section) and also www.thewoodebletterscompany.com

Hope this helps. Have fun decorating!

Aw thanks for a great reply.
I'm loving the cowboy theme!! There's some amazing stuff on the US websites, mostly by JoJo designs, but expensive to get shipped over, grrr!

We've gone with a jungle theme for dd, but it's very gender neutral.

Unusual colours scheme and bold prints - kind of 70s style curtains from here called cheeky monkey spice.
Wouls really recommend them anyway - also have curtains, cushion cover and duvet from them for ds.

White elephant stickers from wallglamour.co.uk

Dulux muddy puddle on the walls, white woodwork.

Orange chair and lampshade.

Sounds quite crazy, but actually works really well and is a really warm, cosy room.

Our room is smaller than yours 2.8x2.2m but south facing so fairly bright.

We've done ours for impending DS1 in the ziggy and friends collection from next because we both just loved it. We've done soft lime and duck egg blue on opposing walls and got natural pine furniture.

Looks beautiful!! Is nicest room in house - the rest of which is a decorating bombsite! I want to spend all my time in there in my poang chair!!

Our room is really small too so i have made sure that there is lots of storage available in the room and injected loads of colour. We were also on quite a tight budget so we did buy some stuff second hand.

I have bought a large Chest of Drawers from Ikea in Red for £20 off gumtree and a wooden changing unit for £15 off gumtree. I have made some really simple and light curtains to match my colour scheme to go round the changing unit so it doesn't look messy as it will have all of the creams, nappies, wipes etc on it!

We have bought quite an expensive sleigh cotbed in Oak which is gorgeous - that comes with an under cot drawer for all the baby's bedding and towels. It's a little bigger than we should have gone for given the size of the room but we wanted an heirloom piece - something that will be suitable for all my babies to come - and we will probably move over the next few years so we weren't too concerned.

We don't have a wardrobe but I made the decision that we don't really need one and my nursing chair is in my bedroom as I figured i would use it more in the early days when baby was sleeping with us.

We went for the mamas and papas whirligig theme in colour but only bought the quilt, bumper, mobile and bunting. The rest, I made myself, including the black out curtains.

We are really happy with it. It looks really fresh with lots of colour and because there is a lot of storage, it doesn't matter that there is not a lot of room for maneuver around.

We went with white walls. We took our time and bought fun colorful furniture pieces for it and spaced out wall pieces (black, white, and red) that we could change out easily as our baby grew. Over the crib we did our baby’s name out of nursery letters from www.houseofcrazi.com. Now that he is 2 we found that we can change out room themes fairly easily because of this.

In our old house our tiny nursery was light green, with Ikea nursery/children's furniture (white but I think they do other colours) and with grey blinds and carpet. It was a lovely room! It was teeny tiny, but perfect for a nursery. :)

Darkstar4855 · 09/10/2018 11:08

How about a warm cream on three of the walls and then one feature wall in a colour? We did this in our house and it keeps it looking light and spacious but still with a bit of colour.

I have this theme going on and I love it. Grin

For our DS nursery we painted the walls vanilla (found white a bit cold) and then painted a mural on the wall and have lots of pictures in frames around the room. It's Wookie and the Chew themed (star wars cross winney the pooh).
For our next DC we will paint the walls the same colour and will paint another mural (Dobby- HP themed). The new DC's room is tiny. We're going to have the cot, feeding chair, small wardrobe and then some shelves with baskets on. Changing area is on a box which was built in to cover the stairs, but with DS most of it was done on the floor! We will also have a basket of toys on the floor.
