Anyway I can 'sedate' this baby so I can sleep?

Ok, obviously I don't mean that literally, but you know how the MWs advise you to eat certain things if they baby isn't moving. Is there anything I can do that will make it sleep?

Last night I was awake from 4am with this baby pummelling me quite violently so I barely slept. If it isn't that it's pains in my hips or my legs, pins and needles in my hand from carpal tunnel. I need sleep. I haven't slept a full night in 8 months. Help me!

Chamomile tea before you go to bed?

Bumperlicious · 26/08/2010 20:21

Thanks for the tip but I can't stand chamomile tea, I wonder if I could take it intravenously though...

Chamomile teabag in the bath? (and block your nose)

Never tried that, but just occured to me, the sleepy goodness might seep through to your wriggly baby?

Stiff G&T......

Bumperlicious · 26/08/2010 20:29

Both good ideas Grin

I can cope with the smell in the bath, as long as I don't have to drink it. Really fancy the G&T though...

Not sure about sedating things as how tired/sleepy I am doesn't seem to make a jot of difference. However, caffeine & sugary foods definitely make my LO more active.

Have you been to any relaxation classes?I was taught a few techniques which I find help as my bump usually goes crazy around 4 am. I get up, go the loo and do my breathing exercises at the same time and normally when I get back in bed after around 5 mins the movements slow down and I can get back asleep. My teacher taught me an exercise which involves taking a deep breath and exhale slowly until you have emptied your lungs. This action causes you to expand and contract your insides and is as near as you can get to giving your baby a hug at the moment. Mine seems to like it, and emptying your bladder helps make more room!

Thanks for the tips, am not good at relaxation class type things, though I have done yoga over the years so have learnt breathing techniques there. Will try the deep breathing thing tonight.

Try a mug of warm milk and a lavender bath. It will help relax you, hopefully, so at least you wont dread going to bed.

I dreaded going to bed as my little one was such a constant fidget but relaxing definately helped to at least get a few hours sleep (in between bouts of horrendous heartburn...oh, I am SO glad I am not pregnant anymore!)

FWIW, my DC is now 5 weeks old and a terrible fidget, but he sleeps a good 5-6 hours solid at night!

(Failing that, a glass of wine or small G&T wont hurt!)

I am so glad I'm not alone. I was up at 2am where LO was wiggling about so much, managed to drift off again but was woken at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep, fidgets for a much longer period at 4 and I can't settle, then my hip starts to hurt and then get cramp in my left calf. [always the left calf]. I'm knackered, I've taken to naps straight after work as LO's usually quiet around then.

My mum says it's payback, because I was such a fidget. :)

I do pilates and find it relaxing, have a nice shower every night before bed. I'm totally chilled and ready to zonk out, yet LO doesn't care at all.

Found that he goes even more bonkers and will wake up to listen to Johnny Cash songs. It scared me to death in the car the other day, I pulled over to have a walk about. Only connected it when another song came on the radio at another time. I'm not sure if it's love or hate though.

I'm not sure if this is true but mine went very still after this the other night....

sex can rock them to sleep!!

Either way, at least it's enjoyable!
xx

Oh god ems, I really don't thing I have the energy for that!

I tried a bath last night, didn't help much. Have been swimming today (well, to the pool with DD at least) hopefully that might help me sleep.

I am having the same problem at night - only thing I find that helps is to get up and walk around for a bit - downstairs and back up again - seems to usually do the trick - i think maybe he is in an uncomfortable position and complaining about it so moving shifts him - always have a wee too so maybe the more space thing helps.

Bumperlicious · 27/08/2010 18:47

Right, I might have to crack out the red wine tonight...
