Curry, warm bath, long walk, raspberry leaf tea (see a herbalist), sex...

CrunchyStarlight · 26/08/2010 16:16

LOL at your blunt post.

Firstly, you can't be induced unless you want to, and there are very few medical reasons why you might want to be.

Secondly, castor oil is actually potentially dangerous and is not recommended. It can irriate your bowel and make labour much more unpleasant too.

Thirdly, it isn't always advisable to try to get the baby out before he/she is ready even with home induction tricks.

whirleywoo72 · 26/08/2010 16:16

tried sex, still here, and i cant walk far i got spd xx lol i have had a bath everynigth this week x lol i will try the curry but not looking forward to the castor oil xx i got a bottle of cider xx

How many weeks are you?

NamedAfterTheBandActually · 26/08/2010 16:20

Nothing works.

You don't want a baby to come any earlier than absolutely ready for birth and it's all old wives' tales anyway.

You don't have to be induced. You can ask for expectant management where they will monitor you and check that everything is okay.

How far along are you? A normal pregnancy lasts between 37 and 42 weeks.

Jacksmybaby · 26/08/2010 16:20

cider?? Shock

whirleywoo72 · 26/08/2010 16:20

shes engaged, i have gd and having a big baby, i dont want a section, she is ready , i am in constant pain, with braxtons double me up in pain, and sdp, im on crutches and living on pain killers, im fed up and house bound xxx im 38yrs and on my 4th baby. not a problem with the others, the youngest is 14yrs, then 16yrs, and 18yrs. What the hell was i thinking off. lol

NamedAfterTheBandActually · 26/08/2010 16:22

You don't know that your baby is ready. Size and engagement really don't mean a thing.

I'm sorry you feel so miserable right now.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 26/08/2010 16:25

Are you over 41 weeks then?

With DS2 from due date I tried:

castor oil, black cohosh, walking up stairs (even with spd, I was desperate), curry, reflexology, a sweep, acupuncture. They didn't work.

He came when he wanted to 41+1. Fwiw I would have refused induction - I got a scan to check the placenta and vessels and all was well. He then came about 12 hours later (I think because I was completely at peace by that point that all was well and I would just have to wait). It turned out to be a wonderful birth - the best of my three so far.

Actually, I think the best way to try to bring on labour is acupuncture - but it'll only really work/help things move on if you're ready.

Don't do castor oil, please please. It'll give you terrible shits. If I'm ever constipated in the future though, I'll know what to do.

Good luck.

whirleywoo72 · 26/08/2010 16:25

I been scan every 2wks, and then clinic afterwards, im in my 37th wk, and she is of the ..growth scan, i was told i can deliver the head but rest will be a problem xx

CrunchyStarlight · 26/08/2010 16:28

whirleywoo. I understand that you have gd, so some of the usual things don't apply. i.e. there 'could' (not guaranteed) be an issue with the baby getting very big the longer she says inside, but what you have been told about delivering the head but not the rest doesn't make an awful lot of sense to me.

37 weeks is a bit early to be expecting delivery any time soon. What is your history with your others?

Jacksmybaby · 26/08/2010 16:28

Why has doc said you will need to be induced at 37 weeks?

ILoveGregoryHouse · 26/08/2010 16:29

Whirley, x post with your last one. Sorry it's so rubbish. I am aged 41 and 31 weeks with DC4, a girl. I know I am fed up already what with spd, sleeplessness (I get cramps in my hips), reflux, piles, varicose veins, cankles, fat fingers, a double chin. I know I'll feel just as bad as you do very soon. Bah!

Callisto · 26/08/2010 16:31

Nothing worked for me either, tried sex (loads of) driving down bumpy dirt tracks, curry, etc, etc. Finally the midwife gave my cervix a 'sweep' I think she called it and that seemed to do the trick. DD was 10 days late.

whirleywoo72 · 26/08/2010 16:32

i had a previous cs, and 2 normal deliveries, around term. they say shes a big baby and dont want her to get any bigger, im 4ft 10 inch, and a shoe size of 3, and looking at a 8 half pound baby xx

OP posts:
CrunchyStarlight · 26/08/2010 16:34

what size were your others. It does sound like they're being a tad overcautious, but then again, I understand you do have medical issues.

whirleywoo72 · 26/08/2010 16:36

6 pound 8 and normal
7 pound 3 kiellands forceps
7 pound 11 he was the emergency section

Think whirlywoo's concerns are the likelyhood of shoulder dystocia if baby con't to grow along the same centile. With baby growing so big so early there could be elements of the GD control not being fab and that can lead to premature ageing of the placenta and deteriation of the blood flow through to baby.

Am sure that the decision to look at induction isn't being taken lightly by whirly or the medical team, and seems bit unfair when she's asked for advice to be dismissive of wanting labour to come on so early. Online info about GD is amazingly limited (best source I found since being diagnosed were the threads on here) thus those lucky enough not to have it know very little in comparison with the info available on pre-eclampsia.

Best of luck whirly - hope all goes well whether natural/induced or c/s xx

loftyjen · 26/08/2010 16:55

arrgh no edit button - meant to say pre-eclampsia or similar conditions.

CrunchyStarlight · 26/08/2010 17:04

I haven't seen anyone be dismissive of the OP wanting the baby to come early.

I also don't think that it is true that consultants do not consider induction lightly.

loftyjen · 26/08/2010 17:13

really Crunchy??

your's seem some of the most dismissive - esp you're comment on:

there 'could' (not guaranteed) be an issue with the baby getting very big the longer she says inside, but what you have been told about delivering the head but not the rest doesn't make an awful lot of sense to me.

shoulder dystocia

CrunchyStarlight · 26/08/2010 17:14

But SD can happen to any baby, and isn't a medical risk.

CrunchyStarlight · 26/08/2010 17:16

And I was the first to acknowledge that there are medical issues that have implications for this birth.

Others have acknowledge how horrid the last bit can be.

Not sure why you're on your high horse but it is unjustified.
