Cribs- any good?

Hiya, I am starting to look at buying a crib for next to our bed- a cot would be too big for the space available. I am loathed to spend a fortune as some people said how short a time you use one for etc etc. I have seen a couple of reasonably-priced ones online like this one at kiddicare and also a soft one at Boots and I just wondered if anyone had used them already or had any general views. I did look at second-hand, but the trouble is that actually cribs aren't so cheap when you add on postage costs and I would need to buy a new mattress anyway.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I used a crib as I knew I was expecting a big baby and felt he would be in it for longer than a moses basket. It was a mothercare wooden one, we bought it in the local paper for £35 and it was ideal. Just about to buy a new mattress for it for dc3. I much prefered a crib to a moses basket as if you go for one with slatted sides you can see in much more easily from all angles.

I think I am veering towards a wooden crib too for similar reasons. And if I can get one locally second-hand then I am kind of thinking they will be easier to clean down before Bean comes along.

I have just bought a rocking crib second hand on Preloved.co.uk. - a site I only just discovered today and really reccomend. It needs a lick of paint but only cost £5. I was able to collect it though as it wasn't too far away. Check out NCT site for list of sales days close to you.
Good luck

could you try second hand? I am using a crib borrowed from family and have had a new mattress custom made to fit it from an online store (babymattressesonline.co.uk), it didn't cost any more for a custom sized mattress than it would have done for one from a high street shop.
