You are not alone - I'm 16 weeks and have felt like this since about 6 weeks!

Really aware of breathing even when sitting down and find walking up the stairs gets me puffed out.

I thought it was stress but then read somewhere that this is quite normal in pregnancy. I cant believe how many weird symptoms there are!

roulade · 24/08/2010 16:47

Me too, i'm pretty sure it is very normal!

excitedmummy2be · 24/08/2010 16:47

It's very normal. As baby grows they push all your major organs up and squash everything. Your lungs will be fighting for some room... And losing! Nothing to worry about :)

claire196 · 24/08/2010 16:55

Apparently it's also a hormonal thing, it explains it here

Laska · 24/08/2010 17:37

I've had this for the last 2 weeks too (now 10+5). I was relatively fit before, but climbing stairs and slight hills have me puffing and feeling a bit dizzy!

xkatyx · 24/08/2010 18:39

Gosh, glad i'm not the only one, i sound like that bloke out of star wars!!

I have been getting palpatations too which doesn't help.

I dread to think that if im this out of breath at just 15 week's what on earth ill be like at 30 lol im gonna need my own oxygen mask just to go to the loo.

Really normal, I had this too. It can be a sign of anaemia though, so worth having your iron levels checked.

xkatyx · 24/08/2010 19:48

The palpitaions are driving me nuts some days are worse, i still take my pregnancare which have iron in them so i dont think it's that.

I'm sitting here now and its fluttering away very annoying

Fast heart rate can be a sign of aneamia too, although I think that's when it's severe (can't remember sorry!).

You should have your blood checked at your 16 week appt, so worth mentioning it then :)

xkatyx · 24/08/2010 19:53

I think i will do, my heart isnt fast just fluters every now and then (palpatations) sp?

seems like palpitations can be a symptom:

www.cks.nhs.uk/patient_information_leaflet/anaemia_iron_deficiency

Might just be normal pregnancy symptoms though too!

xkatyx · 24/08/2010 20:16

Awww thank you for looking that uo for me, im going to ask her to check it for me next week just to be sure.

I had palpatations in my last pregnancy, its just scarey when it happens

You're welcome :)

I have been having palpitations too since I had my baby (long story), it's horrible isn't it.

xkatyx · 24/08/2010 20:43

Oh mine were due to medication and probably illness after having my baby, I had lots of things go wrong when I had her and it's been a long recovery. I had a big bleed when she was born that made me very anaemic and sent my heart rate really high, it's horrible isn't it, just makes you feel anxious on top of everything else!

Sure you will be fine though :)

xkatyx · 24/08/2010 20:52

oh i never thought of that im on medication too, maybe that is causing them.

Oh gosh yeah that doesnt help at all, what a horrible time for you.

OP posts:
happygilmore · 24/08/2010 20:58

What meds are you on?

xkatyx · 24/08/2010 21:02

AD'S citalopram 20mg been on them since nov

happygilmore · 25/08/2010 09:08

Sorry no idea if they can cause palpitations, might do though?

Mahraih · 25/08/2010 12:05

I've had this since before I even found out. Had to quit gym, have issues getting up the stairs, dancing, anything involving breathing basically. Not on any medication at all.

Apparently shortness of breath is normal in pregnancy (trusty NCT book), perhaps we just have it worse than others?
