Am36 weeks so only 4 weeks to go, but none of my clothes fit. I am living in size 18 Primark trackies and size 18 vests. My maternity jeans don't fit. The maternity tops I have barely cover my bump. Am fed up up, I feel shit enough but I look like shit too.

It's too late to buy anything new, plus I can't afford to spend any more money on clothes. But I was having a look on ebay, I just need some decent trousers or jeans I can wear and a couple of tops to see me through. I had some nice jeans from New Look but now they are really uncomfy even with the zip down (which the tops barely cover!). Should I try some over the bump ones or is it just too late? What can I wear that is comfortable? And while I am normally a size 12 I have put on weight so should I go for 14 or 16 just for comfort?

It's a real pain in the arse time too, summer is mostly over, but I'm hot, but the weather is shit.

Urghh! Just need a moan really and some tips. I will shoot myself if I have to live in these trackies, I never usually wear them.

Absolutely no advice I'm afraid - I'm having the exactly same dilemma. Am also 36 weeks and whilst nothing fits or am absolutely sick of the sight of it, I refuse to part with any more cash to buy anything else. Want to join me in a ceremonial burning of all maternity clothes once baby is out and we've deflated to normal size again?!

snowmummy · 23/08/2010 19:23

I couldn't spend four weeks in trackies so I'd go and get another pair of jeans in the next maternity size up and a couple of tops. Try Matalan as they're quite reasonable.

Bumperlicious · 23/08/2010 19:30

Picklesarnie, gladly, just not quite sure how soon after birth that might be though...Blush

My hand is hovering over a pair of dungarees on ebay. That would be wrong wouldn't it, even in pregnancy?

I am ashamed to say that I went out in black pyjama bottoms today as they have a very comfy waistband. I am past caring and don't want to spend any more money on maternity clothes. I would rather look rubbish now and then buy something lovely for myself later when I am a svelte size 10 (please God!)

merlin8878 · 23/08/2010 19:41

Another 36 weeker!

I've found bits in charity shops this time around as money has been tight. I've been lucky and got some maternity bits, but otherwise I got floaty looking tops/tunics/dresses in a bigger size.

Peacocks are usually quite cheap too and some of the larger stores have a few maternity bits.

kiwidreamer · 23/08/2010 21:05

Well I hate to say it but it might be closer to 6 weeks before baby arrives and then you may still need maternity wear for another month or so afterwards so if you can stretch the budget to another pair of jeans and a couple of loose tops then I say go for it. Charity shops is a good idea, the Sainsbury / Tesco clothing lines do loose swing type tops that are under a tenner, what about Freecycle? Might be some generous person looking to get rid of their maternity gear. Also For Sale sections of baby related forums like this.

I put all my maternity gear in storage after DS was born and after a couple of years now look at it fondly and can't wait to wear it again!!

nymphadora · 23/08/2010 21:13

Im 32 weeks and am spending all my time in the house in just knickers & t-shirt as I'm far too hot & all my clothes are too tight.

I'm down to two pairs of trousers I'm alternating but can only do one day on as I get so sweaty with the pouch then bump support then T shirt if I go out.

Been looking on eBay but I can't find anything & no local shops that sell maternity stuff.

ragdollismyname · 23/08/2010 21:21

check out the asda maternity range, it's really cheap and even though there's not loads of choice they'll be enough to see you through. I'd get a size or two bigger than your usual size though. Or check out primark's underwear section, they have black pajama bottoms that ate the softest material and have a really stretchy waist for a few quid, they look like casual pants.

ragdollismyname · 23/08/2010 21:24

oh forgot to say, if you've got pants and tops that fit but are just gaping over the tummy area, invest in a couple of bump bands, covers the gap!!!

Bump bands are awful if you get hot though, can't stand mine as I'm always too hot :(

ragdollismyname · 23/08/2010 21:45

yeah actually know what you mean bout the bump bands making you hot, i was pregnant in winter and loved them when i was out but had to strip it off as soon as i got home. could always stick a couple of ice pops down them??!!

baybay · 24/08/2010 08:41

bumperlicious this did make me laugh a little bit but i do feel for you as it is miserable isnt it, it reminded me of my last couple of months of pregnancy, i have twins so my tummy was huuuuuge by 34 weeks.
I was wearing a very stylish combination of pyjama bottoms with the waist band rolled under the bump, a bump band and a vest top rolled up to sit under my boobs as i couldnt tolerate anything rubbing my tummy so i had a bump band permanently on!
I also had a very attractive pair of fake Ugg boots purchased purely because i couldnt reach my feet to put shoes on but i could grab the top of the boots and haul them on.
Was still in mat clothes until twins were 4 months though, for comfort and my tummy has taken ages to go down, so prob not a bad idea to buy a couple of things as you will stiil get to wear them.

SweetTea · 24/08/2010 09:31

I am about to hit 36 weeks too this friday and am off out in a mo to buy some more tracksuit bottoms!!

I have a couple of pairs of combat style trousers from H&M with the stretchy pull over your bump waistband, but even they are now becoming too tight :(

It is depressing as we are doomed to be frumps! I would like to join in the maternity wear burning session too as i will deffo not be having another one after this (my second)!

Just have a good old moan and get it off your chest, we all understand how you feel :o

Valid point about needing the clothes for a while once baby arrives though, as much as we all hope to spring back to our old shape it ain't gonna be easy or quick :(
I have even purchased a Post Natal Exercise Book to get me motivated back to being active, but it's quite a scary read i must say!

nymphadora · 24/08/2010 13:18

Anyone know what asda yoga pants are like? Are they leggings or trackie pants?

Kathyjelly · 24/08/2010 13:33

What about your partner's clothes? Or your dad's. I spent most of the last week dressed in one of his tailored office shirts (complete with cufflinks) and a pair of his tennis shorts. I had a really nice sun hat and got someone to do me a pedicure.

It was August and stewing hot so it worked perfectly.

3plusbump · 24/08/2010 13:47

Try Peacocks.
I was in there yesterday and managed to pick up loads of cheap bits in their sale to last me through the last few weeks of pregnancy.

I spent £15 and got 2 pairs of lovely stretchy leggings and 3 long loose Tshirts / tops. (Non-maternity but went a size up)
I thoght the leggings / tops would be comfy for the first few weeks post childbirth too with knee high boots and a long cardi as the weather gets cooler!

HelenaCC · 24/08/2010 14:22

I too was depressed to grow out of most of my maternity clothes by/before 36 weeks. Im now at 40 weeks and I did invest in a couple of outfits such as leggings/long tops + size 16 maternity (to my usual size 10!!!) combat pants from H&M mama. I have since used therse things day in day out.

Second the george at asda tip - and I also wear DH's tshirts and hoodies... Oh and it may sound bad but at night I also use his undies (clean ones!!) as sort of short pj bottoms as his tshirts dont cover me otherwise Blush .

Whast is even more depressing is getting to the point in the last week or so where I can only wear one pair of flip flops ALL of my other shoes dont fit my swollen feet. AND ITS RAINING HERE!!! Roll on birth of bubba...

TaurielTest · 24/08/2010 14:32

36 weeks too, i feel your pain. No waistbands are remotely comfy.
I am therefore wearing mostly dresses - with tshirts underneath if required - and a single pair of exceptionally forgiving yoga pants.

PickleSarnie · 24/08/2010 16:07

Am so jealous of those who fit into their OH's clothes! Mine is one of those horribly annoying people who could live on a diet of beer and scratchings and not put on a pound and I've never exactly been dainty even before this baby business! All I hope is that bump inherits his metabolism. And his normal sized head, as opposed to my freakishly large noggin.

Bumperlicious · 24/08/2010 21:13

Same here with the flip flops, good old adjustable Scholls!

Good point about the leggings top combo with long boots. My biggest annoyance are that it will be completely between seasons, one minute it is going to be boiling then it is going to be a crisp autumn. May have to pop into town to investigate. DH is taking DD off tomorrow to his MILs, I am meant to be taking it easy, but could make a short trip - do I chose Peacocks, Asda or Matalan?
