Any positive stories about bleed at 16wks?

Title says it all really, have had a brown bleed and am 16wks pregnant at the moment. Having had 4 previous mcs (all early on, mind) I am feeling really worried and am hoping to distract myself with any positive stories anyone might have.

I have contacted midwife and she said see how it goes then ring back if I bleed more or have stomach pain/cramps. So its just wait and see at the moment.

Thanks in advance

I had a small bleed at around 16 weeks with DD1. She was fine and it didnt happen again. Can you get the MW to have a listen with the doppler to put your mind at rest?

My friend had a huuuuge bleed at 22 weeks with her DS1 (enough for an ambulance etc). They thought it was caused by a low-lying placenta and in the end all was fine and she had a vaginal birth.

ILovePonyo · 23/08/2010 17:36

These are the kind of things I need to hear!

Thank you Haliborange, the midwife seemed really chilled out about it but I think maybe I will ring tomorrow and ask if she can have a listen, thats a good idea, thanks.

I had a few days of bleeding around the 14 weeks mark, went to A&E and had internal exam and a scan. Was told the cervix was closed and the pregnancy was fine, just a crumbly cervix. Nothing to worry about. So I didn't worry the next time it happened and all's still well at just over 20 weeks. Do check it out though as it will put your mind at rest fx.

ILovePonyo · 23/08/2010 17:49

If I can ask a very personal question (sorry in advance for this) was it a red bleed or brown? Just wondering.

Thanks for responding redheadgal, really pleased things are going well for you. I will get it checked out. (btw, "crumbly cervix" isn't a phrase I ever thought I would hear before!)

Mine was a bit of both, and not much altogether (less than a tsp maybe).

My friend with the low lyin placenta was asleep and woke up because she thought she'd wet herself, so of course it was red (and seemed a lot).

Oh, another friend bled in both of her pregnancies because of cervical erosion, which is nowhere near as alarming as it sounds. The blood would have been red because the blood you'd see in that case is fresh.

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 23/08/2010 19:41

I had brown bleeds at 4, 8, 12, 16 & 20 weeks with dd1, in fact I thought the first one was my period, so didn't realise I was pregnant (until about 7 weeks, i worked it out eventually Grin).I had similar with dd2 but had red bleeds too, but then I did have a low lying placenta. Crossed fingers for you, I hope it's all fine!

DomesticG0ddess · 23/08/2010 19:50

I had bloody discharge between 16-20 weeks (TMI - one time was a fleshy clot about the size of a 10p, which really shocked me). There was no infection, nor low lying placenta, just one of those things. Happened a couple of times after 20 week scan too I think, but nothing since then, and am now 31/32 weeks and completely fine. I am sure you are fine at this stage and the bleeding is v common, esp brown. I had an early mc before this pg so was very worried too, so I understand how you feel.

ILovePonyo · 23/08/2010 21:06

Thanks all. I think sometimes it seems amazing that women can have big bleeds and still be fine but it is common DomesticGoddess, you're right. I think I need to remember that and try not to worry myself anymore.

Thank you all for sharing, its a really personal thing and I really appreciate it, also positively not had any more bleeding this evening.

I'll check back in and let you know how I get on :)

With my most recent pregnancy i had several red/ brown bleeds and ended up in the early pregnancy unit every time.

I had a 9lb 1 ds at 41+6, so all turned out well, but Dh was too scared to come near me! Ds is my 3rd child but i'd never bled before.

Hope all turns out well for you! :)

LynetteScavo · 23/08/2010 21:33

I had a HUGE bleed at 15 weeks.

I presumed that was the end, but I now have a 5yo DD asleep upstairs.

deepdarkwood · 23/08/2010 21:39

I bled throughout my pregnancy with ds - from week 8 until I gave birth, I had one four week period with no bleeding, but otherwise had about 2-3 bleeds per week. It was (at 34 weeks...) diagnosed as cervical erosion. It was mostly red bleeds, and usually fairly small amounts of blood.

I also bled with my daughter, but somewhat less often - probably 5/6 times across the pregnancy, from week 10 onwards.

They are 6 & 4 now, and they don't go to sleep early enough, but otherwise show no ill effects Grin

Of my good mates, 3 have had reasonable amounts of bleeding in (established) pregnancies - two of those had their babies a bit early, but all were otherwise totally healthy.

LetsHaveAnotherOne · 23/08/2010 21:41

I've had numerous bleeds, almost daily throughout 2 of my 4 successful pregnancies. So many virtually daily varying in amount and colour. Never got an explanation. Children were born healthy with no ill effect.
I would think at 16 weeks your baby is well established and will be fine. It is a worry though. Hope you get a scan to put your mind at ease soon.

Fleecy · 23/08/2010 21:43

Had a small bleed (brown and red) at 17 wks - they never did establish the cause but all was well and I now have a lovely DS.

Sis is currently pregnant and bled for a few days around 7wks but has subsequently had scan and everything is fine.

Hope it works out well Smile

NoahAndTheWhale · 23/08/2010 21:45

I have a friend who had a big bleed at 16 weeks - her DS is now nearly 6.5

queenofthehouse · 23/08/2010 21:50

I had a brown bleed quite small with my first at around 11 wks and it was all fine. The sonographer showed me where there was damage aroun the sack and that it was old blood that I was seeing as it was brown so nothing to worry about. Hope it's the same for you, I think the fact that it's brown is a gd sign. I would get someone to check you over it will put your mind at rest, i called up my epu after my midwife (who was great for sending me in for anything just to be cautious and ease my mind) spoke to me (she couldn't listen as it was earlier on) and they got me to come and been scanned asap. I do however have experience in different parts of the country and I've been treated quite differently but if you're worried you should push to see someone. good luck x

I had a bleed last weekend (15 + 4 weeks) - brown to start with, then red with a clot. Scanned the next day - all well, no idea what caused it! Stayed at home for a few days and touch wood has settled. Hope all goes well for you, good luck x

ILovePonyo · 24/08/2010 18:28

Thanks all! I have also spoken to a couple of people and they have said too that they have a had a small bleed and baby was fine.

I really think that just hearing from other people who have experienced the same thing helps, also no more bleeding since so I was hopefully worrying about nothing.

The fact it was a brown bleed was good too - I am feeling so relieved compared to how I was feeling yesterday!

You are all lovely, I think I will re-read this thread if I start worrying again! :)

I had a bright red bleed at 16 weeks, like you my last pregnancy ended in MC so I was in a total panic and assumed that it was all over. However, got it checked out the next morning, by which time it had pretty much stopped, and the doc said that the baby was fine. She said that I may have been over-doing things and caused the bleed that way...could you have been doing a bit too much?

Anyway, I'm now 21 weeks and have had no more bleeding. I know how scary it is to see blood but try to stay calm and take it easy.

ILovePonyo · 25/08/2010 16:49

Thanks Margie. Actually I do think I could have been over doing it a bit recently, I am a bit of a stress head and have been busy with work etc. Am going to try and chill out now!

When you saw the doc did they use a doppler to check the baby or did they send you for a scan?

Congrats on your pregnancy!

It was a while ago, but my mum had a big red bleed at 16 weeks (and again at 20 weeks) with my brother (who is now 22 Grin).

My brother was FINE, but it wasn't great all the same. The placenta was coming away from the uterus (my mum had miscarried one month before she got pg with my brother, no period in between, and they thought it was related). This meant that my poor mum (who had 2 under-5s at the time!) was on bedrest for the rest of the pregnancy. BUT, all fine in the end Smile, and your bleed was brown not red too, so I am sure you will be fine!

ILovePonyo · 25/08/2010 17:17

I wonder if it was related to previous mc? Just thinking b'cos I am pg straight after a mc, no period in between either.

Glad it all worked out for your mum! I don't know if I'll commit to bed rest but I will try and take it easy from now on :)
