Can I keep my little 2-seater?

I know compromises will have to be made (and I am prepared to make them) but do I really have to get rid of my very favourite 2 seater car when baby arrives? What are the rules on car seats in the front? Will a pram really not fit in the boot? Can I get a roof-rack? side car?
Is anyone else facing similar dilemma?

You can put a car seat in the front but you must switch off the airbag.

I don't know how big your boot is, but I have a convertible mini and a Petite Star Zia fits in there and is suitable from birth. It is a little flimsy though so I only use it for shopping and holidays and have a "main" pram for the rest of the time.
Why would you want a roof-rack? You can't put the baby up there, it'll catch cold...

According to here

"10. Can children travel in the front seat? What about two-seaters and convertibles?
Apart from those in rear-facing seats when there is an active front air-bag, children can travel in the front seat of any vehicle provided they are properly restrained. This includes 2-seaters or convertibles, even if the top is down."

i BOUGHT a 2 seater when i had a baby!! it was my little rebellion. DS loves the wind in his hair and i have a quinny zapp that fits in the boot, it's rattly and horrid so only an 'occassional' buggy but you can clip a car seat on and it's so tiny there is room for shopping too.

i loath all this now i have a baby i need an estate - it's rot!

I had a Smart car until my first-born was 2. We bought a special rear-facing car seat with a cradle from the dealer that switched off the front-seat airbag when it was clicked in place and switched the airbag off when the car seat and cradle was removed.

I could cram a big Quinny Buzz in the boot, but it's better to get something smaller like the Petite Star Zia, Mamas and Papas Aria or Quinny Zapp so that you can get your shopping in as well.

But I sold the Smart when my DS needed a toddler car seat because I didn't like the idea of him being in a front-facing car seat in an accident; and I have another baby on the way.

Thank you guys - you've made me smile. And I'm going to look out for some of those prams and seats you've mentioned. If DP can have a motorbike it only seems fair I should keep my fun car too.

hello, i am definitely keeping my 2-seater even after I have the baby, BUT... baby will NOT be travelling in it.
Luckily DH has a 'sensible' normal-sized car which can fit all 3 of us in plus prams and luggage and whatnot.

I do think a "normal" car is required, as the 3 of you will probably need to travel together sometimes?
But if you can afford to keep 2 cars then keep the 2-seater.
that's just my view.

I kept my 2 seater convertible but had to get the passenger airbag switched off. I couldn't fit my buggy in the boot so used a sling until little one was big enough for a lightweight folding stroller. Once he was in a front facing seat he loved the view and also loved the top down! Still hanging on to it but now have 2 children so don't manage to use it as much so have to use hubbys sensible car!
