Superstition - pram in the house?

Hi there,

This is a ridiculous question, can't believe I am asking it!

I am due in Nov, and my mum has found a second hand pram for me, and is driving down with it tonight and staying for a few days. Obviously I want to see it and play with it to check I am happy with it...

My neighbour just looked shocked when I told her and said - 'you're not going to keep it in the house are you - that is bad luck' God, I had never even heard of that... I haven't actually bought anything, not because I am super superstitious but wanted to make sure everything was looking ok. Does anyone have any qualms about buying a new pram and having it at home - or are people asking others to look after it till the baby is born?

Thanks :)

I have had my pram for a few months now (am due 27th September), I thought that I was being all organised as almost have everything now - My Dad then emailed me last night telling me not to buy the pram until after the baby is born as he doesn't want me 'temping fate'! Now this has made me feel really shitty and I actually cried last night when I went to bed - It never even crossed my mind that at this far gone in pregnancy that anything will happen to my baby - and then he had to go and make a stupid comment like that, why are some people so thoughtless? Thinking with a logical mind though and not a hormonal one - If anything did happen to my baby then it sure as hell wouldn't be because I had bought a pram!!

I was a bit superstitious the first time around but it was delivered until late into my pg and then we stored it in the garage.

This time around I bought the pram when I was about 3 months pg and again the superstition thing began again, until I realised that if I were re-using DD's buggy, it'd be in the house anyway!

As irrational as we know these things are, they DO creep in unfortunately!

I don't know how I would have whiled away the last four months of my pg if I hadn't been wheeling the pram round the front room like an eejit. I'd have had to take up knitting or something instead :o

We never had a pram but bought a pushchair suitable from birth when I was 16 weeks pregnant and my mum was horrified! We had a spare room which we turned into the nursery so other than having to move it to paint and kicking the cats off it regularly there was never any problem with it being there. I am not a superstitious person anyway so I wouldn't let that stop me picking up a bargain!

How on earth are you supposed to go and try out prams in shops when you are sore with stitches, bleeding, and leaking milk from swollen breasts, exhausted from not sleeping and running with sweat??

And how are you supposed to get your baby to sleep unless you can push him about in a pram to settle her/him?

And why have a go at prams? Why not say, don't get any baby stuff at all? And then what are you supposed to do with no nappies, clothes for the baby or anything at all?

Stupid superstition is stupid.
Angry at people who scare pregnant women with silly things, as if we haven't got enough to be freaking out about already.

Our baby is due in November too and we have had the pram in the house for weeks because it was an ebay bargain I couldn't resist. Only disadvantage to having it already is it's in a box by the sofa in the living room so there are quite a lot of biscuit crumbs in it Grin. I would be more stressed if I didn't have things ready already - what difference can it make? I agree with Miffster, silly neighbour to scare you with something so pointless.
