Hi

This is my first ever post so I feel a bit bold starting a new thread but here goes.

I'm 34 years old and have been sort of trying to get pregnant for a few months, in that we haven't been taking precautions but as I have a lot of PCOS symptoms I was looking at it as hoping I might get pregnant rather than seriously trying to get pregnant.

My period is a few days late and I happened to have a pregnancy test in the house so I thought I'd do it fully expecting it to be negative and for my period to start in a couple of hours only for it to come up positive. I'm in total shock. It was a first response test which gives you one pink line if you're not pregnant and two if you are. I had the bold pink line that is always there along with a reasonably faint second line.

What are the chances that because the second line was faint that it's a mistake?

Cheers
Z

I would say congratulations are in order :) A faint line is still a line and the second line only appears if it picks up the pregnancy hormone in your wee.

It's not a mistake, the substance that makes the second pink line appear is different from the substance that makes the first one appear, and it's only in your urine if you are pregnant! Congratulations! It's faint because not much has built up in your body yet as it's early days. I had a line so faint I could only see it in certain lights, and now he's a 4 month old baby!

Ok then, just taking some deep breaths, crying and sort of smiling :)

This sounds like a ridiculous question but what do I do now?

I'm signed up for the Great North Run next month and was planning to go to the gym later, is ok still to go?

If you're used to working out then there's no reason not to continue. Just be aware that pregnancy takes a lot out of you so listen to your body and don't push it based on previous expectations of ability but accept what you are able to do now. You may find for a while that you can just continue as normal. Obviously, it becomes harder as the pregnancy progresses and the main concern is not to become too out of breath. But exercise will continue to be good for you.

And if you have no specific questions, queries or problems then ring your surgery and see what their procedure is. Here you go and see a midwife at 8 weeks, no need to see a GP or anything beforehand.

Make sure you're taking your folic acid.

And MN is a very useful resource!

Welcome and congratulations.

And it's normal to feel overwhelmed, shocked etc as well as excited. It's a strange feeling. Your entire life has just changed in the time it took to wee on a stick. But it's changed for the better. I'm very pleased for you.

Thanks everyone, this is a little bit overwhelming but definitely in a good way :)

Now just need to wait for DH to get home so I can tell him, really looking forward to seeing his reaction :o

As for the GNR at least now I have an excuse for being really slow.

Lovely news! I strongly suggest cake to celebrate, and also, of course, to remedy the shock.

Congratulations.
