Hi Sh77

My son has had other problems since birth, but i'm not convinced that they are at all related to the antibiotics he received for the GBS. He has food intolerances, but i also have the same intolerances and his father has allergic asthma, so allergies were to be expected (some may say the antibiotics damaged his gut lining, but I don't know).
He also has a muscle disorder, which is still under investigation at great ormond street, but this is a structural problem within the muscles and is likely to be genetic, although no specific diagnosis has been made yet (my niece has similar problems and didn't receive antibiotics at birth).
I can understand people wanting to avoid giving medication to a baby if it may cause long term side effects, but in my situation the antibiotics they gave me didn't prevent him getting the infection and the antibiotics he had saved his life. Even if they told me that his other problems had been caused by the antibiotics, i'm personally not willing to risk not getting the drugs prior to my next birth, just because i cannot imagine having to go through all of that nightmare again, so i'm willing to try to avoid it again by getting the drugs (and give them to the baby too if the consultant advises it).
Definately all down to personal opinion and previous experience I think, and i wouldn't condemn anyone for holding different opinions to me!
