I'm 15 weeks and since yesterday morning have had pains in my stomach on and off. They seem mainly to be on my left hand side, quite low down and feel a bit like trapped wind. It's nothing like period pain. I thought it was wind but without being too graphic, nothing has shifted it yet. It's not a constant pain and does seem to be affected by going to the loo (was there every 1/2 hour yesterday but don't think it's a bladder infection as I did genuinely go- but felt it then)- my lower back is also quite painful. It got quite bad last night but eased a bit by this morning, athough I'm still aware of it. Does anyone know if this is likely to be some kind of muscle strain or should I get it checked out? Im not sure if it could be a stomach bug as I've had diarrheoa (SP!) and have felt a bit under the weather. Have contacted my GP but they can't fit me in and to be honest don't know if I need to go! If I wasn't pregnant I probably wouldn't worry about this too much but all of dh's advice and reassurance haven't helped so far. Sorry to go on but i'm a real worrier! Does anybody have any advice on what it could be?

Could it be ligaments stretching?

Rachael17 · 29/07/2003 17:10

hey hayls
dont get too worried i think soup dragon may be right i had a similar sort of pain at 17weeks was in really bad pain and eventually ended up going into hospital the gynecologist said after doin various tests that its probably just my ligaments stretching to screamin point. just check with your midwife next time you see her
p.s hope it feels better soon im now 23 weeks and i still get pains but only if im on my feet for a long time

Hi all. Ended up getting an appointment with my GP yesterday and she tested a urine sample, which showed I had an infection. I've been given amoxycilin (SP)- assuming this is Ok to take? She also said it could bw ligaments stretching. SHe listened to the heartbeat so looks like junior is OK! Thans for your advice.

Hayls - just caught your thread. Glad to see that you got it checked out and caught the infection early. I took amoxycillin in my last pregnancy with no problems at all. Can sympathise with the ligament pain - no fun at all. I found that it always felt worse when I was tired or had been really hectic during the day. A warm hot water bottle helped ease the discomfort for me. My mw described those ligaments like a low slung hammock underneath the baby and taking more and more strain as it grew...lovely. If it gets really painful I did resort to taking a couple of paracetemol now and again which gave some relief and is ok if only now and again. HTH Good Luck

Hayls, I'm not an expert, but I've been told amoxycilin is OK if you are pg or bf. Had to take it several times when ttc and could have been pg, and twice when bf dd who was only a few weeks old (in each case due to chronic UTIs). Wasn't too happy about it, and wouldn't have chosen to do so under other circumstances, but it does not seem to have harmed dd at all. Hope you feel better soon.

Hayls - good idea to get the pain checked out but if i remember rightly i had an awful lot of low down pains alternating from the left to the right etc and it was nothing to worry about just ligaments stretching as your body is adapting to pregnancy. Hope you're ok.

Teletubby · 30/07/2003 14:05

Sorry hadn't read all the thread!! Glad you did get it checked out and yes amoxycilin is fine to take - i was taking it literally throughout my entire pregnancy second time round as i kept getting nasty urine infections and there were no effects whatsoever on my baby.

Hayls · 30/07/2003 14:27

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who's suffered from this. I'm reassured that I can take the amoxycillin. It's one of those pains that I couldn't imagine would be as bad as it was until I actually experienced it. Still, it's easing of a bit now (thankfully)although I've still decided not to go to work tonight (Youth club- can't face loads of running around and loud music!)

Just reread this- not that I'm glad other people have been in pain as well, just that I'm glad it's not that uncommon (that sounded really insensitive-sorry!)
