Hi everyone

Im almost 11 weeks pregnant but in feb this year i got knocked over by a car.

I fractured my spine, pelvis, coccyx and shoulder blade and broke my arm in two places! now i have a shiny metal plate inside it and a lovely pink snaky scar down my right arm! anyway that is part one, so i was already worried about how having a baby would affect my pelvis.

then today i fell down the stairs, iv got very bad carpet burns on my arm and back and very bad bruises on my bum!! my breathing feels a it tight and i am extremely worried about the baby.

Does anyone have any advice they can offer me on this any help id really appreciate.

Hi Katie,

you poor thing, you've certainly been in the wars!! All I can recommend is that you go and see your GP.

The body is pretty tough (and you seem pretty good at 'bouncing back'!) but your GP obviously knows much more than you or I.

Good luck, Pippa :)

Personally I would go to the EPU (early pregnancy unit) of your local hospital when they open in the morning as they will be able to scan you to check all is well. Between 11-13 weeks pg with DS2 I got knocked down by a car, fell down a flight of stairs and had a really heavy bleed. DS2 was fine!

Forgot to say, without a GP referral you might be best going through A&E saying you've had a fall and get sent to the EPU from there.

Sorry to hear about your injuries. Agree with the others about the most recent fall - check it out with your GP.

Re. the car accident. I got knocked over as a kid and fractured my pelvis. It's been fine for years but I still mentioned it to the midwife during my first pregnancy and she referred me to a specialist to get checked out later on - around 28 weeks I think. I got poked and prodded and they decided it was fine for me to have a normal birth, but I still made sure it was on my notes and I was in the bit of the ward where they can do epidurals etc., rather than the natural birth centre, just in case there was a problem.

I agree with getting some medical advice. If you are O neg you will probably need to have an anti D injection just incase. I had a fall down the stairs in my first trimester with my second son-went to the GP, adviced me to go straight to the hospital for a scan, scan was fine, was given an anti-D injection as I'm O neg and he is now 2 1/2 yrs old and a bonny boy! Babies are very resilent but best to be cautious at the same time. Good luck! xx
