Glucose test in first pregnancy

For some reason I've been told I don't need this test! Not sure why, and slightly nervous about it.

Does everyone get this? What are the symptoms I'd need to watch out for?

I thought it was standard practice between 24-28 weeks. They have been testing my wee obviously so maybe that's why...

you really don't need it if you don't have any risk factors or glucose in urine, some trusts do it as routine which is a waste of money and resources if you ask me.

Honeymoo - think they do it as standard if you had a high bmi in your first pregnancy appts.

Mine was 29 so was given option to take the test. It really wasn't too bad.

They took some blood, gave me a cup of sugary syrup to drink and left me to relax and watch daytime tv for 2 hours before taking a bit more blood again. Like a mini holiday!

Just ring your midwife and ask why you were recommended to have it if you're nervous though. There's nothing wrong with you asking for more information. Smile
