30 weeks and body needs an MOT

I read a thread earlier about nearing the end of your third trimester (you know, the bit where you can see the light at the end of the tunnel from 35 weeks or so) and feeling the strain and wondered if there is anyone out there feeling this was at 30 weeks??

I'm a first timer and was smug up until about a week ago, feeling reasonably sprightly and energetic despite being the size of a walrus.

Suddenly my body has reached critical point and has decided it can no longer bear the punishing weight and strain.....ligaments are screaming, my hip joints need some WD40, my back is like a rusty iron rod and some red, welty stretchmarks popped up overnight on my stomach Hmm.

I know it'll only get harder. I know I'm being moany. I was just hoping that someone else at the 30 weeks-ish stage has also hit their wall as misery loves company.

Other than that, hope you're all well, healthy and enjoying pregnancy!

Oh Guernsey, I feel so sorry for you dear. I'm a couple of weeks behind you and am desperate to break off for maternity leave so I can rest for a bit and just let my body relax before the even harder work starts! I do hope you manage to rest your weary bones and pamper yourself

dappymoo · 17/08/2010 20:50

Definitely with you.
I was soooooo pleased with myself for having no sickness, being "sprightly" etc for all this time (if a little mentally unstable) and then last week (32weeks) suddenly became a wreck! I stagger around now and can't get up stairs without wheezing, I have indigestion all the time and am TIRED beyond belief!!

Saying that, some days I'm terrible and some days I'm fine, I wonder if the bad days will become more frequent as time goes on... And i know I'm worse when i've overdone it...which is most of the time as I'm planning a wedding! Doh.

But yeah, muchos sympathy guernsey!

Oh yes! 30 weeks here too and getting sciatica, horrible horrible heartburn after even looking at food, waking up every 1.5hrs during the night, constantly knackered and wishing it wasn't another 5 weeks till maternity leave starts...bleugh :( Just had a small meal and my stomach is so taut it's pulling on my back muscles!

I feel like Violet Beauregarde...

You are not alone. Was vomiting all day and night up to week 22 and had a nice 8 weeks were I felt human again. However, since last week (31 weeks) I have not had a full nights sleep and my hips and pelvis ache if I over do it. If I sit down during the day I want to nap but can't as I am in work! However, this is only temporary and much more bearable that having my head down the toilet for hours on end! I find getting up, having a shower or some deep breathing exercises help if you are uncomfortable as my baby will eventually move to a better position. My pregnancy yoga class has also given me some good postures to do so you may want to try that if it becomes unbearable. Anything is worth a try.

Hi Guernsey I'm definitly with you on that one. I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and for the last couple of weeks I have been bone-achingly knackered.

Thought it was just me being a wuss, but finding it hard to keep my eyes open all day, and once I've had dinner I'm popping rennies all evening. Even DH has commented that I seem to be struggling now, and have to make 'old people' noises every time I stand up or sit down.

The first 30 weeks were a breeze (thankfully) but I think that made me less prepared for the last bit!

guernseygirl · 18/08/2010 09:34

Plasticspoon...Love your idea of feeling like Violet Beauregarde, that sums it up perfectly!

Thanks for the comiserations everyone, this stage of pregnancy is a lot more awkward than the previous trimesters, though I confess I think I'd take the aches and pains over the nausea of the first trimester.

Nov75, you're doing amazingly if still in work with such bad symptoms.

I often seem to vomit on a Monday morning, which must mean I'm having a work-shy baby - he's fine on Friday!

Agree with the yoga approach. I was going weekly but the recent onslaught of Serena Williams-esque grunting every time I move (Jenko77 and Dappymoo, sympathies with the groaning/wheezing/whimpering) means that I'm now doing the home dvd version to save on embarrassment.

There's a 38 month along lady who goes to my class who glides through her downward dog like a swan. Heartening to know that not everyone is limping through the last few weeks afterall!

Redbird, when do you go on mat leave?

I'm on my 8.5 week countdown, 8 weeks on friday and watching the clock ticking every second!

Oh OP, I feel your pain. I'm 32+3 and starting to flag now! I was gasping round my power walk this morning and was overtaken by an old lady. It's not a power walk either, it's a proper Henry VIII gait.

I'm so hungry all the time, too. So hungry. I want a pink iced bun. I walked past the bakery this morning and there they all were, laid out glistening in the morning sun... It was a beautiful thing to behold. I wanted to smash through that window and get down on all fours like an animal and eat them all at once. Oh God, I want a pink iced bun. I really, really do Sad

I nearly went nuts at my Mum the other week when she told me to get some sun on me, because I looked pale. I got so angry, I was thinking 'you bloody try being massively pregnant and looking healthy! You should be grateful I put some mascara on and heaved my huge self out of bed this morning!'

I go off on mat leave pretty early because of the way our HR year falls, so have five weeks left at work (need to use up my holidays first). I know it won't be a 'holiday' as such, but I have certainly found being pregnant harder on the days when I have to haul my ass out of bed, find something to wear that fits, empty half the fridge into my bag for lunch/snacks (as I too am starving all the time- did someone mention buns? Grin) and then get the bus to work. Have now got to the stage where the four flights of stairs to our top floor office are become a joke and I have to keep stopping for a rest. Before pregnancy I used to be able to jog up them, ah well....

guernseygirl · 18/08/2010 14:43

Redbird, five weeks still sounds like a life sentence, definitely not what most people would call an early mat leave date. You should most certainly treat it as holiday and refuse to get out of bed, get dressed or pick up wet towels (that's my plan, doubt OH will go for it!).

Am cringingly self-pitying today and my put-upon husband manfully dealt with my watery eyes over lunchtime, weeping into my sandwich as I'm tired, overworked, nauseous and (clearly) crazily hormonal.

I told him I'd been venting on mumsnet and could see the half-formed response that I couldn't be that overworked if I was online, but he's a smart one and kept that to himself. Brownie points.

JazzieJeff, get down to the bakery and throw yourself into the pink iced buns in the name of cravings. Go for it!
