Hi all, Just wanted to get your views in which of the two hospitals in your view has the better NHS delivery ward.
Cheers

I only know of St Thomas' (my friend delivered there) and she said it was excellent. They have really nice facilities, I think you get a great view of Big Ben!! I've had a few other friends give birth there, all positive feedback.

I gave birth at St Thomas'. Excellent, professional care during actual birth (premature labour ending in EMCS) BUT terrible experience in the post-natal ward (horribly understaffed, basically). Other friends have had similar experiences there. I may have just been unlucky but personally I would never go back there (luckily we have now moved out of London so it's not an option anyway.)

My SIL had her DD at UCH and the post-natal care seemed much better there from what i could see.

Is UCHL the same as UCH? If so, I had my DS1 at UCH and it was horrible and an awful experience. I had my DS2 at St Thomas' and it was just perfect. Everything I could have asked for and we had the room directly opposite Big Ben like Goodlulckbear 's friend. I think they called it the Home from Home ward or something?

Cluds, interesting contrasting experiences!

The thing about St T's post-natal care, from what I can gather comparing mine and other friends' experiences, is that it seems if you have have a relatively straightforward labour/birth and can stay in the individual rooms/home from home part, it all seems to be a lot nicer, but if you have any complications you get transferred to the post-natal ward which is SUPPOSED to offer a higher level of medical care but actually offers a really shoddy level of care IME.

Agree with above, Delivery fabulous at St T. The wards post-natally are an effective form of contraception. You never want a repeat stay there. Understaffed, dirty and I wont even start on the health care assistants.
