Big baby growers - couple of Q's

Just have a couple of questions, sorry if I sound ignorant...

  1. MW wrote in notes today "SFH LFD referral TBA" - what does the TBA stand for? Surely not To Be Announced Grin ??? Who am I being referred to??? (already have app. with consultant about being LFD)

  2. If I am 29 weeks but am measuring 36 weeks does this refer to length of baby or weight? Or both? Would baby really be around 6/7lbs at this stage??? I do have GD but 6/7lbs at 29 weeks would be ridiculous, surely?

Please talk to me in terms of one and two syllables! TIA Smile

AhickeyfromKenickie · 16/08/2010 18:02

sfh lfd I would thing has to do with fundal height and large for dates, referral to be arranged. These measurements are notoriously inaccurate so not necessarily cause for concern.

xkatyx · 16/08/2010 18:15

ha ha ha yes of course lol good thing someone is on the ball "smirks at Traditional birth attendant"

juliec26 · 16/08/2010 18:20

Lol just having an alert day .. Trust me they are few and far between.. Blame it on ur pregnancy brain I do all the time ., sure baby will be a nice size with my last said she was 7lb at 34 weeks . I went full term and dd was 7.8 they always get it wrong x

AhickeyfromKenickie · 16/08/2010 18:36

Yep, blame the pregnancy brain, as always!
Still don't understand the method in measuring FH though, can't seem to get an answer out of Google Confused

Fundal height just happens to measure in cm the same as you are in weeks, it's a really vague measurement and cannot be trusted it's only a guide, hence the referral for scan, if you have gd you are likely to have a big baby and they may evaluate whether you are carrying a lot of fluid, whether you are big enough to birth a big baby at term, they may talk about induction a bit early so baby doesn't get too big.

AhickeyfromKenickie · 16/08/2010 20:14

I understand that, but what I don't understand is whether it refers to length or weight of baby. I've had one short, chunky baby and one long and thin you see!

It refers to the distance from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus. The baby is not in a straight line so can't measure length, just a rough idea of the overall space its taking up.

As others say it's not very accurate so don't worry. A friend of mine just opted for an elective CS as her baby was measurung 4 weeks over and then the growth scan put him on 98th centile. CS at 39 weeks and he was 8lb 4oz, hardly massive!
