Fat pants

I am now nearly 27 weeks and all my trousers don't fit. I have been living in yoga pants from American Apparel, but even they are becoming too tight and uncomfortable now.

Have others actually bought maternity trousers or are you just wearing big 'normal' trousers. I don't need anything smart as am not working anymore (woo hoo) but need something massively comfy.

I am reluctant to buy maternity gear as it may never get used again. Therefore, can you divulge what bottoms you wear to relax in and where you bought them from so I can copy? Thanks.

i wore normal leggings under my bump with tunic tops, my SIL was only comfy in trackies and we used to joke that she looked like vicky pollard, lol

at home i wore my DHs pyjamas

i would buy at least one pair of maternity trousers - you do wear them a bit after pregnancy too whilst schlepping round the house with baby.

i had some from Next which were all soft panel (though became itchy with time and wear as polyester - why why why is so much maternity stuff polyester?) though v. comfy and i sometimes wore them as pajamas.

Maternity jeans from Next are only £18...so probably works out cheaper to by mat jeans and one pair of trousers (£20 from Next) than having to keep buying bigger trousers - it will be more expensive in the long run and if you bump has growth spurt (which it does) its much easier to loosen the tabs on the jeans then run out and buy bigger trousers

Also, unless you are one of the lucky ones who snap right back post birth, you will probably be wearing mat bottoms home from hosp - I know I was!

Bought some gorgeous plain black yoga style maternity pants in Mothercare sale. Buy one get one half price so a good bargain. And I love that you call them fat pants! Thats what I've been calling them and keep getting funny looks off people Grin

I had pair linen trousers from next maternity - took about 6 washes for the side elastics (the bits to make tighter/looser through pregnancy) to become soft they actually cut my skin on one side and I have the scar now to prove it!! Very comfy other than that.

Also brought 2 pairs of under bump jeans live in one pair both are next.

I also have to skirts one is a jojomaman and another is pumpkin patch - again very comfy

and then have some normal summer dresses from last year that fit over bump as flowy style

I am 37+4 and refuse to buy anything else now - I didnt wear maternity bottoms til I was 30wks but was wearing tops sooner.

My sister is 32wks with her third and doesnt buy mat clothes she just wears cropped joggers in summer and longer ones in winter but she doesnt work.

How on earth did you get away with not wearing maternity bottoms until 30 weeks??? I can't get anything round my middle at the moment - with the exception of stretchy yoga pants. How small was your bump? Maybe my bump is just fat....

Have to say towards the end (35 weeks) the Next maternity trousers, jeans and linen pants have done well for me, everything else is too tight around the the middle. Have they had there sale yet? Might be able to pick up a bargain?

I am only 15+4 but have had to buy a pair of maternity jeans already. I was wearing my old ones with a bobble around the button and doing the zip half way with a long top. It has however, become increasingly uncomfortable so I gave in. Goodness only knows what i'll be like by the time i get to 25 weeks etc.

I would definately recommend some good maternity pants though. With ds1 I just bought the next size up in normal pants and found that I ended up feeling really frumpy because I felt like my legs/backside etc was growing massivly (it was growing dont get me wrong, but not as much as it looked like in the trousers that were a size too big everywhere apart from my tummy!)

ThatDamnDog · 16/08/2010 20:14

DP's pyjamas. Ultra comfy. On the downside I look like Waynetta Slob so I tend to avoid leaving the house.

I picked up a couple of pairs of maternity trousers on eBay for leaving-the-house occasions :)

RonansMummy · 16/08/2010 20:25

i also wore a party dress a lot of the time, i only wore it once before i was pregnant but it did the whole pregnancy with a long sleeved top underneath, i looked really overdressed wearing it to the supermarket, but it made me feel pretty!

moonminmama · 16/08/2010 22:08

RonansMummy I love the fact that you wore a 'pretty' dress to go shopping. That is exactly what I plan on doing this time - that is when I can be bothered to get out of my pjs or DH shorts Grin

japhrimel · 17/08/2010 04:05

I'd definitely buy some maternity trousers. Presumably you're not planning on putting on and keeping on lots & lots of extra weight after the baby is born? In which case supersize clothing will also only get worn now - and in the meantime you'll be uncomfortable and feeling & looking fatter because normal clothing doesn't cater for bumps!

BaggedandTagged · 17/08/2010 04:14

I bought some maternity stuff and some "bigger" stuff and find that works quite well

I bought some quite nice linen mat trousers from Mamas and Papas which either tie in at the ankle or can be worn wide leg for a bit of a smarter look. I think the issue with just buying bigger trousers is that they are bigger everywhere- my legs and butt are the same size they were before so that doesnt really work.

Other than that I bought M&S maternity leggings (£8) to wear with long tops and some gipsy skirts/long dresses from Monsoon with elastic/ empire waistlines and just bought them plus 2 sizes.

keepingeverythingcrossed · 17/08/2010 09:06

leggings and long tops did for the entire pregnancy and my bump was vast by the time i reached week 34. The ones from next in my original size and then a size bigger nearer the end. For slobbing around indoors primark do some really soft stretchy yoga trousers for 4 quid that i just got in a 16-18 (usually a 12)and the elastic waist was not at all diggy inny.

lucybrad · 17/08/2010 10:07

i invested in a lovely range of maternity wear. Work trousers and blouses, jeans (over bump are the only comfortable ones), maternity leggings. I figure i can sell it all on ebay at the end!
