Hi sweedy-you can get breast pads from mothercare or boots-can get brands from Johnson and johnsons, tommee tippee and nature babycare-have to say, I find them all pretty rubbish to be honest as they get crumpled up and keep moving but hey ho, can't really do without them! I tend to use tommee tippee, might be able to get them from other places but these places are where I buy them

Tesco (larger stores), Boots etc.

Yes, you really will need them, especially for the first few weeks.

TMI here, but if you've not BF before you won't know......

Milk can leak out by the spoonful if you even THINK about your baby! Or if it's almost time for a feed. Or if the breast gets pressed against something.

Having 2 big wet circles on your boobs a bit Blush!

About £2 0r £3 for a pack of about 25-30, you can get reuaable ones too but I don't know anything about those.

I used Johnsons breast pads as they are quite thick and absorbant, and they have a little indentation for your nipple Grin so are really comfy.

When you first start BF you will alomost definitaly need them as there is usually an overabundance of milk (I got through about 8 a day in the first few weeks), but as you milk settles you may be able to manage without. Will probably get wet patches though.

Def crucial if you intend on breast feeding. The best by a mile are Lanisoh which you can buy in Waitrose, John Lewis or Boots. Quite pricey but worth it.

I bought a few boxes of Tescos ones for the first few weeks when you leak a lot when your milk supply and demand is settling down. After that I used Little Lamb bamboo reusable ones - they are lovely and soft, very absorbant, and you get enough in a pack (10) to have ones to wear and ones to put through the wash. After a while you may not need them so much in the day but I always need them at night otherwise you leak all over your bedclothes. You need to wear a nursing sleep bra to keep them in place.

Hi got mine from morrisons cost under £2.00 for 50 and they are really comfy, started using them from 24 weeks as I would wake up with big wet patches (second pregnancy though). you can also get them from the pharmacy but tend to be a bit more expensive. :)

onimolap · 14/08/2010 19:40

I had reusables for a while, but never kept on top of the washing!

Then I used the Johnson and Johnson ones because they do not have a waterproof layer in the middle and that bit of extra breatheability was important to me.

You need them less as time goes by and

A) supply matches demand more closely and leakage generally declines, and

B) you and babe get better at it, you get less sore, and you don't need to cover yourself in Kamilosan all the time.

vix206 · 14/08/2010 20:32

I use Lilypadz and cannot recommend them highly enough, they are reusable, invisible and so comfy! They were recommended to me by my midwife.

You can buy them in Boots, Mothercare and loads of places online including eBay.

Don't buy too many - I've still got the ones from ds1! 3 years of bf 2 dc later I have yet to use a single one....

Sweedy · 14/08/2010 20:45

Thanks everyone!

Gosh... how many things... nursing bra, Kamilosan... I got to know only from here that I may need to buy these as well!
Do many of you use the breastfeeding cream & nursing bras? Thinking if I should check 1 now as well !?

sorry, first time mum :)

i just used sainsburys own. had to use them for about 6 months and then after that i didn't need them. if you watch sainsburys they sometimes do a half price baby promotion, i bought loads of things last time it was on.

i used lanolish cream for a few days. spent £10 buying it in boots only to be given a small tube in hospital for free!

:)

grapesandmoregrapes · 15/08/2010 07:39

Yes you will need nursing bras, probably about 4 or 5 as they will need washing when they get milk leaked onto them. Sleep bras are also useful, as your breast will still leak at night and they stop your bedding (and baby if you co-sleep) from getting wet.

I used lanolin cream for the first few months, quite pricey, but the best cream around IMO. I also used calenula cream when my nipples where cracked as it really helps them to heal.
