Friday 13th? Grin

Tongue in cheek thread obviously but as much as I want this baby out (39+5 today) there is a tiny voice in my head going 'ooooh bad luck' Grin

Sorry had to go! Been for scan and all is as it should be! We also know the sex so got her to double check and luckily it's still the same!

As for the male midwife- I've seen him 3 times as he is the back up for my named one and she seems to be absent more than present atm. Perfectly fine for the appointments but i have to admit i don't know if i'd like it during labour?!

The birthing area will be our sitting room probably (dark carpet and more room) but i have my birthing box delivered now and my bag and baby's bag is packed (at least everything will be to hand even if i don't need them for hospital).

I'm not having a pool, are you?

StealthPolarBear · 13/08/2010 15:25

cgh he shares a birthday with my DS then :o
Ds was due on 23rd though and I thought I had a long wait!

Alicetheinvisible · 13/08/2010 15:34

I am 40+4 today so more than happy to have this baby. Doubt it is going to happen though.

I would be more concerned about how the staff react to it being Friday 13th tbh. It would piss me off if a MW mentioned to me that it was unlucky and would i hang on (in a joke of course) if i was in labour iyswim?

dancing

my mw still hasn't made it round here with the birthing box! what's actually in it? should i be concerned its not here?!

yup, i've blown the pool up this afternoon. DS (just 2) is treating it as his own personal bouncy castle so i'm really hoping it doesn't get popped before i need it!

hmm, i see what you mean about a male mw during labour but surely it'd be the same as having a female mw who hadn't ever given birth herself? at least it would in my head Grin

and yes, i've got some bags packed too. One for DS, and one for me/baby. Its quite amazing how little i've got in there for us. My bag for DS's birth was actually three bags HmmGrin

soooo... are you having a pink one or a blue one?

DancingOnMyBladder · 13/08/2010 20:45

No i wouldn't be worried about not having it yet. My DS1 was an unplanned home birth and the community midwives still carry it all on them (the resus stuff they bring on the day too).

It has plastic/absorbent sheets, some cardboard bowls? / some tubing, lots of paperwork/blank sheets. The whole box is a plastic tub which acts as a mini incinerator (sp?) so the lid doesn't go on properly yet until they put all the yucky bits in after the birth. Doesn't seem to be anything of any importance in it!! Perhaps just gives them less to carry about.

Male midwife- i think it's just the same feeling i get about requesting a female GP when wanting to discuss gynae problems.

I have def packed a lot less this time although i've left stuff in obvious places for DH in case i need him to bring extras in. When i had to go in for monitoring after DC2 (hot hot July 2006) he brought me pre preg jeams and a long sleeved top to come home in!!!

We've got a pink one this time. We have two lovely boys and this is def our last so will be nice to have a girl. This is first time we have found out though and have kept it to ourselves so will still have the pleaseure of announcing it properly to everyone.

Do you know what you're having?

tweakers · 13/08/2010 21:01

she did say not to panic if the baby was here before the box was HmmSmile Cardboard bowls are for weeing/puking in from what i remember of DS's birth!

that reminds me about when i went to see GP post DS. I was having bottom issues and was desperate to see someone so just asked for next available appt. Oh and as luck would have it, when i walked into the GP's surgery, i was delighted to discover that their new doctor was an old school friend of mine. It really was lovely to see him but i suspect he should have chosen a more appropriate time to do a catch-up chat than when he had his finger up my bum!

leaving things in obvious places is a great idea but i fear that that wouldn't work with my DH! Unless of course i put a huge flashing sign above it! sounds like we've got equally sensible DH's. I've got a step by step guide on the fridge as to what he needs to do when labour starts. All possible phone numbers, even those i know he knows by heart

we're having a pink one too Smile Are you all sorted on names?

DancingOnMyBladder · 13/08/2010 21:15

OMG I have tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks @ your 'catch up chat whilst he had his finger up my bum'

We have no names! At all! Cannot agree on anything and i really fear she will be nameless and that's something that i don't like the thought of tbh. Do you have a name decided?

You have given me something else to do though. I read above that you have a bag ready for your DS, is that in case he has to leave? My boys (6 and 4) might be staying but we are going to go with the flow. My mum is available and they also might be at school but having a bag ready for them is a good idea.

ElizabethWakefield · 13/08/2010 21:36

My DD was born on a Friday the 13th, I was 2 weeks overdue and had been in labour for 24 hours and I was past caring that it was friday the 13th.

There was another woman on the ward screaming and crying on the evening of the 12th that she didn't want a baby born on "black friday", she was totally hysterical, turned out her baby was born at a minute to midnight on the 12th Hmm I genuinely think they lied to her!! Grin

DD is now in the same class at school as the boy, and DD, the "black Friday" baby is lovely, where as the 12th boy, is not so lovely Grin

peppapighastakenovermylife · 13/08/2010 21:44
Grin

Well its 21.45 - I dont mind if I suddenly go into labour and give birth before midnight if its over and done with that quickly Wink

that's a great way of looking at it peppa!

elizabeth a minute to midnight you say? i'd be suspicious too!

sorry about giving you an extra task dancing! DS is only just 2 and i'm a bit concerned about him being upset about what's happening with me. We currently have different plans and backup plans depending on when it all starts!

was quite funny telling the GP story to DH... i told him i'd bumped into an old school friend who i'd lost touch with and DH asked if we'd been for a coffee, erm no!

oh and be careful about laughing too much... you'll produce extra oxytocin and go into labour!! I just had to do some calm down breathing whilst trying not to cry from laughter (and of course holding my pelvic floor!)..all DH's fault. He was trying to demonstrate how to fix one of DS's toys without the use of a screwdriver. He started off with a 'watch and learn girlo' and it then took him a good while to work out that it was upside down. You obviously had to be here Grin And no, he didn't manage to fix it so i found the screwdriver and did it myself!

what are your boys called? i think we're sorted but every now and again DH changes his mind!
