Stung by a wasp

I got stung by a wasp on my hand this afternoon and it still hurts!!

I saw something landed on my hair and without realising it was a wasp I wiped it off and it stung me!!

I went straight to the pharmacy and got a reassurance that its unharmful to the baby/mother and gave me a cream called Anthisan to put on. But it still hurts like mad...and my hand is slightly swollen too

Any recommendation on what to do other than putting cream on?

Apparently vinegar is good for neutralising the wasp sting - wasp stings are alkali so the acid neutralises it. Unfortunately, it might be a bit late for that so if it doesn't help then I'd stick an ice pack on and that will help to numb it and take the swelling down. Nasty things wasps! Hope its better soon.

If it helps any, I'm a Beekeeper and get regular stings (although Wasp stings are a bit more painful). Localised swelling (often significant) is normal and not classed as an 'adverse reaction' but you have to watch out for significant spreading of the swelling, itching in any other area other than the immediate sting area and any type of skin rash.

It will hurt for a few days, the creams are good but taking an antihistamine tablet would be more effective - there are some you can take while pregnant but the choices are limited. Here's the guidelines:

I think it's just a question of riding the storm though, hope your hand feels better tomorrow.

I was stung on my finger about 4 weeks ago (so at around 34 weeks). It was so painful I actually cried.

Ice in a bag placed on the swelling and Calamine lotion helped.

The pain subsided within a day and went away totally after about another day.

Thanks for your replies/suggestions. My hand is still sore but not swollen as much as yesterday.
I think I just panicked as I might have contracted something from this wasp!

It should feel a lot better tomorrow, but probably a bit sore for a few days. If the sting is on a finger joint, you may develop a hard swelling (as flexing the joint will irritate the injury), and this may last a few weeks (have had this happen to my poor little pinky!).

A couple of years ago I actually sat on a wasp - DH said he'd never seen me jump so high or so fast in my life Shock! NOT fun at all, but it was fine within 3 days.

oldmum42 - omg you're right...after I wrote my last comment thinking its all healing fine my hand got very itchy during the night and when I woke up this morning my hand was swollen, burning sensation and itchy...

I got the sting on my thumb's joint bit and its back to square one and swollen now ;(

I went to see a pharmacist and she said she couldn't give me anything as I'm pregnant, i.e anti-hesitamine unless I get a prescription from my doctor. She also thought I might have reacted on the cream that I was using...slightly confused...

Bicarbonate of soda mixed with a wee touch of water into a paste, pack it on to the stung area and let it dry in and then dust it off gently, great for children to if they get stung (my nana's cure) worked a treat for me Smile
