Hello wise Mumsnetters, this is my first thread and I would really appreciate some advice. Its my due date today and doctor said yesterday that baby's head is not engaged at all which is unusual for a first pregnancy. She is not concerned about the size of the baby and reassured me that contractions may push the baby down and I could have a normal delivery. Evil google has however revealed that I am now more likely to go overdue and potentially need a c-section, something I'd really rather avoid.

So, does anyone have any advice on how to encourage the baby's head to engage? I am bouncing around like a loon on my swiss ball at the moment. If this happened to you and you went on to have normal delivery please let me know. I am feeling a bit hormonal and need to get my positive thinking cap back on. Thank you

don't need to bounce like a loon ! sit on the birht ball with your knees really wide apart and rock gently. walk sideways up and down the stairs too

if there is no concern about the size of the baby's head, then i would not worry too much.

is the head engaged at all or totally free ?

Not engaged at all apparently. They said if my waters break I must go straight to hospital as slight risk of cord descending before baby. Gulp.

My DS wasn't engaged before I went into labour, he was my first. I was well over half way through and he was still only 3/5ths engaged. I wouldn't worry. I thought it meant he was going to take forever but he actually 10 days early without being engaged at all.

ok , that's good advice, but i think it's somethjing like 70 % of womens' waters break when they're in labour, so odds are , it won't be an issue
