Round Ligament Pain

Just wanted to moan really and ask if anyone else was suffering ?

Every other day, sometimes every day at least once or twice i get a stabbing pain that starts on right hand side (low) of bump and spreads outwards accross the hole side of my bump. It is absolute agony when it strikes and i can't think straight for the pain,it often seems to trigger braxton hicks too as my bump tightens.
It usually starts if i get up or sit down to quickly, although rushing can trigger it and sometimes just sitting or laying in one position to long. I dread it when the pain starts because it sometimes lasts up to 40 mins or so, though other times is gone in about 10.

I'm only 22 weeks, and have mild SPD too (had spd in last pregnancy as well, although this is my 6th).

Anyway is there anyone else suffering agonizing round ligament torture, i mean pain ? or is it just me because i don't know anyone else who even knows what i'm describing when i tell them about it, i just get met with this Hmm look !

I had it but it only lasted a few weeks and then happened very rarely so I guessed all the stretching had been done.

Mine was the same as you if I did sudden activity it started and also triggered braxton hicks. Mostly when I was rushing to school pushing double buggy and really couldn't stop! It was about 24 weeks but certainly didn't last past 30. Never lasted 40 mins though, that must be horrible :(

I have had bouts of it, it's not much fun. I found that making sure I'm using my abs to support my belly (tucking pelvis and pulling in tummy) takes the pressure off.

Yeah, it does have me feeling pretty miserable and sorry for myself when it goes on so long.

My eldest daughter is disabled so in a wheelchair (and i'm always having to hoist etc) so not her fault obv but i think that definately doesn't help as she's quite a weight now and even sitting her up (she slumps a lot despite loads of equipment) triggers it too because i'm stretching.

Thanks for replying, at least i know someone else knows where i'm comming from Smile

I really hurts doesn't it!? Mine only lasts for minutes thank god but it takes my breath away, duno what''ll happen in labour if it starts, rlp feels worse than contractions to me but I may not be saying that in 4 weeks or so haha x

Violet5 · 11/08/2010 15:31

Ha ha i've been saying that to my husband, that it hurts worse than contractions and i sometimes think it actually does. But i know once i'm in labour i'll be thinking contractions are worse lol so know what you mean.
I'm quite jealous you've only 4 weeks to go, i've got 18 weeks left to go and i'm the most impatient person ever.
Good luck Smile

I have this too. Get's so bad I can't move sometimes. Even breathing in is painful. Have told GP, midwife and consultant and no one seems that bothered/interested, which I guess is a good thing.
No tips for dealing with it though I'm afraid!

Violet5 · 11/08/2010 18:56

I told mw about it too but she wasn't really interested either Sad although i know it's a good thing really ofcourse as at least its nothing to worry about.
It's just soo painful though, like you sometimes i find it gets so bad that i can't move. The best i can do on some occasions is to just try and breathe through the pain like in labour.
As i haven't heard of anyone else ever going through similar its good to hear from others on here that i'm not the only one, thanks.

Could you see a physio maybe? I have the same pain, along with more general pelvic girdle pain and the midwife referred me to a women's health physio who has been very helpful and I have been able to manage better. I had to ask for the referral though, at first they said its just one of those things.
