If I have Group B Strep at 5 weeks, does that mean I will definitely have it at term?

If anyone can answer this I will be grateful - GBS would mean I can't use the midwife led centre where I had DS1, and although it is a very long way away, I would prefer to deal with it now if it isn't a possibility.

Not necessarily, it can come and go I think. But you might want to get tested again at a much later stage to check.

This website is useful: www.gbss.org.uk/

No experience myself just passing on what I've read but I expect someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly :)

I'm not a doctor.

I tested + at 14 weeks the doc said it might not be there at term,

Ok, thanks for the link, will go and read.

So I could get tested at 35 weeks and be clear?

I just had a weepy moment where I wailed to DH 'but then I can't hve a water birth and I'll be too scaaaaared!'. Which is true, but hormonal.

thanks, sounds like my GP (who is fab btw and I'm not complaining) wasn't sure of all the facts. She did, however, say that she thinks it is ridiculous that it is a factor for not being admitted to midwife led centre. but I understand they have only completely low risk cases, like DS

yes you could be clear at 37 weeks Smile

If you do test + you can still have a water birth. Smile

yes, I read that about water births, thanks for reassuramce - but only birthing pools are in midwife centre afaik. Oh well, chin up and hope it clears up!
