Morning Sickness - the same as my mum?

Hi,

I thought this would be the best place to post this but I'm new to the website so apologies if its not.

Me and Mr K are TTC, the one thing about pregnancy that scares me is morning sickness...really really hate being sick. My mum was not sick at all when she was pregnant with me and I read somewhere that this can often follow through. Has anyone else had the experience of having the same morning sickness or lack of it as their mum?

Thanks ladies.Smile

Mrs K xx

I'm pleased to be able to tell you that I had negligible morning sickness, just like my mum.

MrsKxxx · 09/08/2010 22:05

That is very good to hear :)

I felt very queasy for the first 16weeks and then felt ok, which is how my mom was with me. My sister has been sick most days for about 16 weeks and that's how my mom was with her! Could be a complete coincidence though!

DuelingFanjo · 09/08/2010 22:06

I was terrified of being sick but turned out I had no morning sickness at all and apparently neither did my mum. I don't think it's a scientific fact that you won't though to be honest.

Thank you - very helpful :)

I was still puking the day I gave birth - just like mum!

DilysPrice · 09/08/2010 23:31

According to What To Expect When You're Expecting the majority of women will not actually vomit due to morning sickness even once during their pregnancy. I think it's a slim majority, but still the odds are on your side, and your family history does tilt them very slightly more your way.

My mum didn't have any morning sickness at all when expecting me or my brother and I didn't have any morning sickness when pregnant with my two dd's.

My poor friend has barely had her head out of the toilet since she found out she was pregnant and apparently her mum was the same.

So it looks like it could be true that you follow your mother.

my dm had none. In each of my three pregnancies it was different.

dd1 - jsut had to get up, puke and I was done for the day.

dd2 - constantly nauseous - the minute my blood sugar dropped I would be ill - constantly eating.

dd3 - combination of both

peppapighastakenovermylife · 10/08/2010 07:45

You probably don't want to hear this but...my mum didnt even feel sick at all.

I have had three hyperemesis pregnancies where I am sick all the way through til when I give birth.

Sorry.

Worth it though Grin

waitingforbedtime · 10/08/2010 08:14

Not great news from me. Mum was never sick in any pregnancy.

My sister was sick until 16 weeks both times

I had major hyperemesis in 1st pregnancy

I was sick 1/2 times a day until approx 18 weeks with this pregnancy.

Xavielli · 10/08/2010 08:38

My Mum was sick once a day for around 16 weeks with all 5 of her pregnancies - She says she never felt ill with it though and could be half way through breakfast, throw up, then carry on eating!

I have not had a hint of morning sickness with any of my 3 and my sister had nothing either.

Elsa123 · 10/08/2010 08:39

My mum says she was ridiculously nauseous throughout both of her preganancies (I think nausea is more common than the actual vomiting, but still horrid). My sister had no morning sickness first time round and a minor amount second. For me, I'm 30 weeks and have had none, no nausea other than one freak occasion. I think its all down to how your body chooses to deal with the hormonal surge and it varies from pregnancy to pregnancy.

GoldenKippers · 10/08/2010 09:45

My mum said she felt a little bit sick sometimes in the first 12 weeks or so, but was never actually sick, which is pretty much the same as me. I just felt a tiny bit sick occasionally.

also on the opposite front - my mum was violently ill with all four of us. while I managed (lord knows how) a vomit free pregnancy [grin}

I felt a bit sick for a week early on. But that just resulted in me needing to eat lunch at ten am...

I think it's just luck of the draw. And I truly believe I will probably have the most hideous pregnancy ever after such a boringly symptomless one.

hillee · 10/08/2010 11:25

that being said - there was a part of me that wishes I was getting some morning sickness, just to reinforce to myself that I actually was pregnant. Like LunaticFringe I thought it meant something was wrong.

ConfusedKiwi · 10/08/2010 20:40

My mum had no morning sickness with me or my younger brother and at 40+ weeks I've had none with my first pregnancy (in fact our pregnancies seem to have been very similar, just hoping labour/birth will be too)!

Lotta123 · 11/08/2010 07:59

My mum had no morning sickness. I've had hyperemesis with my first baby.

missdt · 11/08/2010 16:36

My mum was sick all the way through with me and hardly at all with my brother.

I was queasy until about 14 weeks.

Hope this helps, but it probably doesn't!

Good luck.
