Bedside cots - Close & Cosy

I would appreciate some advice about bedside cots. I've just bought a Mamas & Papas Close & Cosy cot secondhand on ebay. I'm also getting a new bed and figuring I may as well make sure I get one that the cot can fit on to (obviously I'm doing this the wrong way round but there you go). The website says the cot 'fits most beds' - does anyone have any experience of fitting one (or similar - like the Mothercare bedside cot)? I am thinking of getting a bed with no frame on the side - would the cot fit on to this kind of bed? Does the bed height matter?

Also, a more general question, is it worth putting the cot up at all if you're going to use a Moses basket to begin with? Am starting to think I should have resisted the ebay urge (although it was a real bargain Grin).

I think the closer the cot can fit to the side of the bed the better. So a divan would be ideal, if not the most stylish choice!! I had the Mothercare one and it had lots of height options, so most beds should be fine. I put DS straight in the cot, firstly because I hate all the frilly broderie-anglaise-ness of Moses baskets, and also because breastfeeding and returning baby to sleeping position is much easier with a bedside cot. You just slide them across!!

some people put the moses basket in the cot at night to get the baby used to being in the cot

Thanks for your replies - Hevster that's a good point about just putting the basket in the cot.

Janice I'm with you on Moses Basket decor! I might see how it goes with the cot to begin with. One further question - did you put yours between the bed and the wall, or just on the edge of the bed?

Thanks again!

Luckily our bedroom is quite big, so there was room to have a bit of space between the cot and the wall. It made it easier for changing sheets, but it's not really necessary to have a gap if you haven't got room.

One more tip - it's much easier to use a grobag with a bedside cot, rather than sheets and blankets. That way baby can sleep up at the top of the cot near your head and you don't have to do the 'feet to foot' thing and have them snoozing down near your legs!

Thanks CuppaTeaJanice, that's v helpful - I like the sound of grobags. Thanks for your help.
