22 weeks pregnant and really, really missing Halloumi cheese!

I can't find it on any avoid/can eat lists...

Anyone know the answer?

It's fine, surely? Not mould-ripened, and cooked

I would have eaten it.

NoTeaForMe · 09/08/2010 13:14

I've checked that one out and found it on a "fine to eat" list! Enjoy!

CouldOfWouldOfShouldOf · 09/08/2010 13:16

Fine, and I always grill/barbecue or fry it anyway, though I'm not pregnant but it's nicer that way.

I have eaten SO much halloumi in the last 6 weeks I starting to dream about squeaky cheese! It's fine, and yummmmmmmmy x

TheOldestCat · 09/08/2010 13:58

You could and you should. Enjoy!

JumpJockey · 09/08/2010 13:59

Oh lordy absolutely - if we're not allowed roquefort and camembert there has to be some compensation! It's fine :)

Eat it! My grandmother was horrified when I was talking about the lists of things we aren't supposed to eat. But then when she had her first there was still rationing and they were grateful of everything they had to eat. It can't have done those pregnant mothers back then too much harm though as we now call their children the baby boomers!

Basically: if you are generally healthy then don't take it all too seriously and enjoy what you enjoy.

Eat it! 'Tis tasty and makes a wonderful substitute for paneer in curries (if paneer is hard to find or you don't like it).

PipPipPip · 10/08/2010 11:22

I would just go for it! I think it is completely fine.

shell96 · 10/08/2010 13:06

I already have... assumed it was ok as its a hard(ish) cheese!

I know this is an old thread but thought I would add some new info. I bought halloumi from Tesco today and it didn't state if it was made with pasturised or un pasturised milk. I called their customer services and was informed it is made of UN PASTURISED milk. I went to M&S and the same story there - made with un pasturised milk. I know that i'm probably being over cautious and it would be fine if you cooked it thoroughly, but i'm trying not to take any chances! Not sure if all halloumi is made with un pasturised milk but be sure to check if you are worried :-)

The cheese debate arises again!

Have a look here for information and entertainment, Dinky...

My understanding is that the pasteurised/unpasteurised thing is a bit of a red herring anyway. In other words, an unpasteurised cheddar is safer than a pasteurised brie. Its the soft v hard that's the important thing.

I also thought that any cheese if cooked is safe?

I am of course, happy to be corrected by anyone who really knows!
