Drop down sides on a cotbed

We have found a lovely East Coast cotbed at Tescosdirect and can use our clubcard vouchers to buy it and the mattress....so effectively it's all free!
It doesn't have drop down sides, does this matter? We love the cotbed and that it's free, but we don't want to be disappointed that the sides don't drop down in the long run!

I bought a cot with drop down sides with my second DC as I was having a c-section.

I never used the drop down side once. It wasn't a problem to reach down and get her out.

The height of the mattress should be adjustable so when baby is tiny and just lying there you can have it high up. Then when they start sitting up you can lower it.

And we also have a cotbed and TBH I wish I'd bought one second time around instead of a tiny cot when I was trying to save money.

Smile Thanks very much Meglet, I thought that about the mattress height but I wanted to double check before going ahead!

Brilliant news!

I think it's usually cots that have drop down sides, but cot beds will eventually become little beds, so the don't have drop down sides.
Depends on how big your lo is...imo, a teeny baby looks totally lost in a cot bed, and mine all went from a cot (bedside) to a cot-bed at about 2yo, then we turn the cot-bed into a little bed at around 2.5 (although ds3 (3 and a bit) seems to love his with sides on, and is quite happy to climb in and out, so we've not bothered yet..

I'm another one who didn't use the drop down sides in our dd's cot bed. (Nothing to do with the fact I had built the cot with the drop down side the wrong way round so it was wedged up!)

I had an emcs but found it was just as easy to bend over and get dd from the high mattress level rather than faff about trying to work out how to drop the side!

I had the same experience as the above posters. I had read so much about how wonderful drop sides were so I rushed out to buy one when pregnant, didn't use the drop sides at all (also an EMCS).

Wouldn't bother to get a drop side again.

(make sure you do the 'big voucher exchange' thing that gives you £10 for every £5 of vouchers too)

Thanks all, it's exactly want we wanted to hear!

MrsBadger that's how we've got enough to buy the bed and mattress, though we'd look into it and are so pleased we did!
