Hi guys just a question to see if you think this is normal pregnancy aches and pains really.

Im 11 wk pg and last night whent to bed with a sharp constant stabbing pain in the lower right hand side of my tummy wich was quiete painfull and sometimes took my breath it hurt that much the rest of my lower tummy had a really dull ache and whenever i whent for a wee there was a pain low down all across my tummy.
I left it till this morning as kids were in bed ive woke up with the same dull ache but the stabbing pains are only there now and again and nowhere near as intense.

Would you say it sounds normal or needs to be checked ive never felt a pain like it with my other 2. Tia

I've got the stabbing pains at times. I think it's the ligaments that support the uterus getting pulled. Seems worse when i roll from right to left and vice versa when laying in bed. Occasionally catches me when getting up from sitting too. I am only 5.5 weeks.
Not sure what the dull ache you have would be. Perhaps talk to your midwife.

I've had them since the day I did a test to be honest - with me I think it's a combination of a spot of interior rearranging going on, and really cruddily trapped wind! Doctor didn't seem worried about mine and I'm figuring if they've been going on for a week and nothing bad's happened yet (touch wood) they're probably ok.

I'd take some paracetamol, drink some cranberry juice & plenty of fluids, and make an appt with your GP tomorrow so they can test for a UTI or prescribe antibiotics if they feel your symptoms are that of a UTI.
I agree it may also be ligament pain, which can be a bugger. However, if you start to feel unwell rin your daycare or similar and get checked out to rule out an eptopic pregnancy ( if you have not yet had a scan to confirm this is a uterine pregnancy).
Good luck.

Although i think 11 weeks would be rather late on for an ectopic pregnancy to show itself. Most are discovered around 8 weeks.
Sounds like a combo of ligament pains and maybe a uti.
Uti's are common in pregnancy. Easily treated. It's important to get your urine checked regularly.

Interesting, I'm 10 wks and have had sharp pains in my lower abdomen this evening too, hence me trawling the MN pregnancy thread at midnight!! Good to know that it's likely to be benign. I was thinking it couldn't be too serious as the pain was more like trapped wind or like a stitch when you're running rather than uterine cramps or period pains, which would be more worrying. In my case, it seems to be linked to going to the loo as well. After I go, I get this sharp pain around my abdomen. It actually feels like it might be something to do with my womb stretching and affecting my bladder. I am prone to cystitis too though so you never know...

Seems to have eased off now anyway (got distracted by AIBU threads before coming on here...) so hopefully I'll be able to get some sleep tonight!

I would definitely go and get checked for a UTI as I had exactly the same symptoms that would come and go and ignored them for a couple of weeks, turned out to be a UTI and I'm on antibiotics. Easily treated but you need to get it checked sooner rather than later.
The sharper pains are more likely to be round ligament pains which are completely normal, it's just the pain when weeing that struck a chord.

Good luck Smile

I've had a stabbing pain periodically on the left hand side of my abdomen below my belly button throughout my pregnancy (am now 26 weeks, first had it at 5 weeks). I knew it wasn't my ligaments so spoke to midwives/doctor. The conclusion was probably a combination of constipation and dehydration. Everthing I've read has said that if you get any cramps/stabbing pains then rule out dehydration as it could be that - we need alot more fluid in our bodies at the moment.

Also, the best advice I had was - any pain that doesn't go away when you rest should be investigated.

p.s. I had all sorts of cramps and twinges for the first few months - i think it's pretty normal.

Hi. It sounds like constipation/ dehydration as Smithy says. I have had an ectopic, and although at first it felt like a bad case of trapped wind, it very quickly (within a couple of hours) turned into excruciating pain which in my case couldn't be confused with wind (and then the bleeding started). With my current pregnancy (I am also 11 weeks and due to ectopic have already had a couple of scans so know every thing's in the right place!) I have had stabbing pains, and they differ form the EP pains in that they are not constant. MW tells me this is 'normal'!
