i reckon you're ovulating

OnEdge · 07/08/2010 21:27

do a test

OhSausages · 07/08/2010 21:30

Yup tis a possibility, but I don't normally notice if i am ovulating! I normally have sore breasts a few days before my period, but this is too soon.

OnEdge, I will at some point, but not yet Grin

Are you ttc?

Tangle · 07/08/2010 22:47

Sounds like you could be. My MW had so much implantation bleeding with her 2nd she was convinced it was a period proper and had herself a month behind.

Which would make me suggest that, if you'd want the screening scans, it would be worth doing a test within the next 10 days just so you know which month you conceived.

Fingers crossed its the answer you want :)

Bellepink · 07/08/2010 23:05

It's the right time for ovulating definitely, but a test won't show anything up yet. too early to say!

IME you wouldn't get sore breasts this early due to pg as the hormones have not had chance to kick in yet.

I had this symptom a while ago 5DPO - was convinced I was pg (have had a few pg's so know what my body feels like when pg) - I wasn't! It must have been OV. When my period started they went back to normal.

Hope you get the result you want!

Tangle · 08/08/2010 20:52

Bellepink - I'm a bit confused by what you mean. The interpretation most posters seem to be putting on the information is that if the OP is pregnant then she experienced implantation bleeding rather than a period a fortnight ago and hence she'd be 6+ weeks pregnant (LMP) now, which I'd definitely expect an HPT to pick up!

Bellepink · 09/08/2010 08:59

Tangle, going on the actual information the OP gave, she said she had a period 2 weeks ago so she should be approx half way through cycle hence it's the right time for ovulating now.

I am presuming she did mean an actual period lasting 3-4 days and can't see why the interpretation would be that it was implantation bleeding. If the OP says it's a period, (and she should know Hmm) I interpret that as being... a period! That's my starting point... what's not to understand?

Implantation bleeding is oft talked about on here but to my understanding is actually pretty rare. Implantation I gather mostly doesn't show itself outside the body but if it does, it would produce the tiniest trace of blood when wiping. A lot less than that it would look like breakthrough bleeding and extremely rarely I'd have thought would be described as a 3-4 days period!

Tangle · 09/08/2010 09:47

Fair enough :).

I guess I was coming from the angle that just because things are rare that doesn't mean they don't happen - and given I know someone quite well who got mislead into thinking she'd had a period that was actually implantation bleeding (even though she was a MW and would be expected to have a better than average idea about these things) it isn't a scenario that I would dismiss out of hand.

So, for me, there are two options:

  • OP is 6 weeks pregnant, had 3-4 days of bleeding at 4 weeks and is now starting to show other signs of pregnancy. If this is the case then an HPT should definitely be +ve
  • OP isn't pregnant, the bleeding was a true (if short for her) period, and all other symptoms are related to ovulation. If this is the case then an HPT would be -ve.

Both of them are possible. The only way to tell for sure is to do a test. If the OP would want to accept screening tests, etc, then having a pretty good idea of the age of the pregnancy would be a big help - hence taking an HPT within the next few days would be a good idea while it can differentiate between a 7 week pregnancy and a 3 week pregnancy. So from that angle, not testing till 4 weeks after the last bleeding would make it too late to say how far gone the OP is. The risk of testing now is wasting an HPT - the risk of not testing now is missing all the screening tests through being booked in a month late (which could also have repercussions on care when it comes to EDD)

If it were me then, as you can get tests for [[http://www.accessdiagnostics.co.uk/acatalog/Early_Home_Pregnancy_Tests.html

I'd be testing lots anyway out of manic obsession idle curiosity!

The cheap tests are a good idea. I also dislike the digital tests because I like pondering over the "line/no line" (I'm wierd like that!) also because the Tescos own brand HPT have always given me the correct answer way before any others (even though you have to squint at the faint line, under a bathroom spotlight!) it's still there, pretty early on.

I still think it's probably OV in this case though otherwise OP would have been "doubling up" on periods or at least behaving a suspiciously early period...

Amberc · 09/08/2010 11:18

If you had a period 2 weeks ago then you would only be a few days pregnant assuming that you had sex at the time of ovulation - maybe too soon to have any symptoms. If you think the short period was just some bleeding and you were already pregnant then do a test as you will be pregnant enough for it to show up.

OhSausages · 10/08/2010 15:35

It was definately a period Smile Not early, around the right time.

Not TTC, don't particularly want to be although wouldn't be absolutely devastated if I was iyswim.

I haven't given it much thought over past few days tbh, I'm probably not but was just a bit taken aback by the sore breasts etc. They are still tender, but indigestion has gone.

Fair enough. Although everything I've heard says implantation can be said to occur while the placenta is developing (entire 1st trimester) and so "implantation bleeding" can occur at any stage(s) during those 1st 3 months. Including exactly when your period would be due Wink.

Glad you're feeling better OhSausages :)

beckie90 · 14/08/2010 10:12

yes with my last i got a bit of bleeding at 6 weeks pregnant and they said it was implantation although it wasnt pink or brown like the internet said, it was spots of red blood.
but i have just found out im pregnant again, and the last period i had was rather strange it started on the day it was suppose to but lasted 2 days, not a constant flow like normal, and sorry for tmi, but it wasnt like runny blood, you know when you ovulate and get the stretchy clear mucus, it was like that but blood tinged, red. although it was still transparant. could that have been implantation bleed?

wallydog · 22/09/2010 13:07

beckie90 - I'm experiencing the same thing now! Had dull period pains and a slight pressure for 2 days now, and clear mucus with specs of red and brown in (not alot) I am about 10 days away from my period and last one was 23 days ago! Not sure if this is late OV or PG (wishful thinking!):)
