Poor you, I do sympathise as I had dreadful MS up until about week 14. My headaches were nasty too.

Perhaps speak to you doctor about it - hopefully you won't be one of those unlucky people who feels sick all the way through.

Are you managing to keep food down?

katzen · 07/08/2010 18:54

keeping small amounts down, just never had migraines that last for days and days every week. Have said to doctor and midwife. Both sounded like it was normal - well its not!

I had such bad headaches that I was shivering and of course it made the nausea worse. I would generally retire to bed at about 6.30pm and lie in a darkened room. I did that for many weeks!

I'm not sure what to suggest for migraines. Try and drink water regularly as getting dehydrated will only exacerbate the situation.

Do they not think that it is serious enough to put you on any medication or have they told you to come back and see them if the situation stays the same over the next few weeks?

To be honest, I think because i said it so matter of fact they just think Im coping and didnt really offer any options.

But i know exactly what you mean it bloomin gets you down. I think what's hilarious is the lack of sympathy from my non pregnant or people-that-have-never-had-bad-headaches friends. Never mind, I hope it passes!

I totally know how you feel. I was so sick and had crippling migraines around the same stage as you. It turned out that the migraines were a result of dehydration from all the sickness. I ended up on a drip of saline and also one of paracetamol. The sickness didn't go but the headaches did.
Have they given you a urine test?
Sending lots of sympathy your way.

thanks Pauline. Funny you mention that-yes Ive got a UTI at the moment too (e coli)Confused. They've got me on amoxcillin so have been taking that.

Just so looking forward to feeling better and enjoying the pregnancy

hi katzen - re your migraines...i have suffered from terrible pregnancy related migraines and eventually saw a specialist who gave me some good tips that stop short of taking medications that aren't recommended during pregnancy.
as soon as you feel the slightest twinge of a headache coming on (well before it gets to migraine level) take two Paracetamol Plus (the Plus bit is important!) - preferably soluble ones. PP contains caffeine, which helps the painkiller work better. Try to drink it down with some Coke - the sugar apparently also makes it more effective. At the same time try something called 4head which you can get from boots. it's a little stick that you rub on your forehead or neck and really makes a difference. it won't cure a migraine - not even close - but it will make a big difference to mild pain and should give you some time for the PP to work.
For me, ordinary paracetamol never scratched the surface of a migraine - it was a bit like a band aid on a broken leg - but it DOES help stop a headache rapidly becoming a migraine. prevention is the key. Don't get hungry, dont get thirsty, don't get stressed and definitely don't do all three at once!
i also worked out a link between carrying my DS (3) on my shoulders and getting a migraine later. something to do with the neck muscles.
HTH

Hi Katzen, I can sympathise and understand I've just gone over 12 weeks and have hordenous nausea and I'm averageing one 2 day migraine a week. The only thing my GP has said is paracetamol as soon as I feel one coming one and then continue with the paracetemol (obviously not exceeding the 8 tablets in 24 hours). I've been using forehead too which Sotough is right it really does help while your in the pits of one. And I second the never get hungry or dehydrated thing too. I have no idea whether it's safe for preggers women to have these but I take dextrose tablets too when I feel one coming on, I'm alot more relaxed as this is second time round suffered like this with 1st and didn't take any meds but cannot cope with rampaging toddler and pain right now. And then get loads of help and rest to get through it, time off work too you GP can sort that for you. I hope you feel better soon but your not alone with this.

thanks you so much, big hugs to everyone. It's so nice to hear from good folks like yourselves - wishing you all the best in your pregnancies!
