Maternity Bra Fitting

Hopefully one of you lovely ladies will be able help.

Where is a good place to get measured and fitted for a maternity bra?

I have no faith in M&S but not sure where else to try?

TIA

it really depends on your size-John lewis might be a good start, where do you live and what is your usual bra size?

Hevster · 05/08/2010 20:33

lots of people say John Lewis are good

I found in general the world os maternity/nursing bra fitting, and the bras available,to be woefully inadequate.I was a 30E pre-preg and a 32G during, went up to a 32J or some such in the first weeks of bf.I went to Rigby and Peller-only onebra that came close to fitting me properly and patronising assistant,Bravissimo-helpful and nice staff but the only bra that fitted was not great.John Lewis-lovely staff but again a lack of bras for my size that gave support, its crap actually.I reverted to wired bras after a few months of feedingespecially if I was going out,no problems.

I'm in Glasgow.

Pre-pregnancy I was a 38D. Been to M&S twice

I don't know Glasgow at all,I would say you might go up to a 38FF or G when you are breastfeeding. Is there a John Lewis in Glasgow? Or another good department store? Otherwise you could buy bras from Bravissimo by mail order, they don't have a big selection at all,but you could try two as a starting point.Make sure you really are a 38 as lots of women overestimate their back size and underestimate their cup size.

I went to Debenhams today, and I was a bigger back size than I thought, and a smaller cup size... bras were comfy though, in comparison to the M&S ones I guessed at.

My problem is that I appear to be a 42 chest, so places like bravissimo don't cater that big. Am I stuck with department stores only?!

There is a lovely lady who has a website and catalogue, amplebosom,I thinks it is amplebosom.co.uk,anyway she is very helpful and does larger back sizes etc.I will try and link now- www.amplebosom.com/ here it is .

Actually the Debenhams sizing may be wrong IMO. A lot of shops will measure you as being a larger back size (partly?) because they don't have the cup size range. I'd check the fitting guide on the Bravissimo website.

I don't know if they do this in your area, but I have been fitted by a local NCT rep. She measured me and ordered in from the NCT catalogue then I tried out a selection and bought the ones that fitted best. This really suited me as she knew specifically about nursing bras and how much extra room to leave etc.
