What could this be?! It feels like a trapped nerve- not that i've ever had one but it came on gradually yesterday on my right hand side and today i can barely walk. In fact bringing the washing in caused me to cry it hurts that much.

Likely unrelated to pregnancy do you think?

Could be siatica? could be that you slept funny....? could be pregnancy related - is your bump very big?

Can you have a nice warm bath/shower or even a swim or massage?

Palace39 · 05/08/2010 14:15

I think bump is big but midwife keeps telling me it's measuring perfectly. Have tried the hot bath... don't know what sciatica is to be honest!

So fed up- already have SPD (doesn't feel at all related) and now this i'm at the end of my tether!

sciatica (pain caused by the sciatic nerve down the buttock, thigh calf and occasionally the foot). Take some paracetamol (co-codamol if really bad. The dose is tiny and the worst side effect will be constipation so drink plenty fluids) and go and see an osteopath is my advice. It can be really easily sorted by osteopath or chiropractor. Can also help with the SPD.

Palace39 · 05/08/2010 14:28

Thank you i will try that. I have been waiting to hear from a physiotherapist that my doctor contacted about relief for the SPD but 10 days and still no response from them... I'll try an Osteopath.

I wish induction was an option, i've had quite enough now...

I had SPD too. Bizarrely it was 'fixed' by going for a run but I don't think the NHS recommend that....! My SPD went straight after I'd given birth so hold on to that happy thought....

Definitely see a physio or osteopath if you can.

Also have you tried sitting and bouncing gently on a birthing ball - it's nice if you've got bits that are tensing up....

KnitterNotTwitter · 05/08/2010 15:34

oooh and feeling that you've had 'enough' of being pregnant is a good sign that you're cruising into the finish line now...

Look out for your 'show' and the beginnings of colostrum if you squeeze your nipples....!!

weegiemum · 05/08/2010 15:39

Has the pain moved at all? From your back to front, or up and down? Is it in your pelvis or higher up than that? Do you have a fever or nausea or anything?

I think it is worth seeing someone. Its probably nothing, but you can get problems with your bowels (often "just" severe comsitpation!!) or urinary tract towards the end of pregnancy and you might need to see a doctor or midwife to get checked out.

Good luck and hope it all goes well for you - soon!

Thank you all for responding- went to see doc who says it's sciatica and has managed, god bless her, to get me emergency physio at the local hospital on Monday. This should also help with the SPD apparently, as will the planned waterbirth. I can just imagine that upon my arrival at the hospital the only birthing pool will be in use...just my luck.

I've had the beginnings of colostrum for a while... i didn't think this was a sign of labour coming on..? I've got a ball, it's been my saviour since i decided several weeks ago that our sofas are too hard and ordered a new suite. Nesting at it's extreme me thinks.

I've had milk puddles for well over a month and am only 31+4, so dont think its a sign of imminent labour

Plus I've had sciatica for months too, so sending many many sympathies to you

Palace39 · 06/08/2010 10:40

Crap isn't it? I literally can't walk now and it only started two days ago. Just burst into tears on the phone to the midwive whilst asking if there is anything that we can do to try and get things moving- to which her reply was 'no'. No discussion, nothing. Just the usual- 'go back to the doctor if the pain is really bad'. I've been 3 times in 2 weeks, i don't know what else they can say to me.

I feel like a ping pong ball being batted back and forth.
