Hello,

I am pregnant in second tri and currently scheduled to deliver at Whittington Hospital.
I am going on the tour next Saturday.
I know they have birthing centere and maternity ward which i hear both are very good.
I have some concerns. I am not afraid of pain as much as I am afraid of people near me in pain. I get easily influenced by that. This will be my first time staying at the hospital.
Could you share your Whittington hospital experience with me? Did you give birth in the ward or in the birthing centre? How much privacy did you have? Did you have a private room?

Thank you.

I had a totally fab birth at the MLU in April. I can't rate it high enough. You need to book in with them by 36 weeks.

I gave birth in the MLU. Must have thick walls as did not hear anyone one else at all (unlike previous experience at the Royal Free), in fact I wasn't aware of the existance of any other patient.

I called the MLU (I was booked in there) at 1am and by 3am they advised me to come in and said there was a room for me. When I arrived the said at reception no more rooms but when pushed it turned out that they'd reserved me the last room.

We arrived in MLU at 4am and it seemed to be very early (3rd baby so they didn't want to take any chances!) so midwifes sensing that I wanted privacy left me and DH to it.

At around 6.30am I wanted a midwife in the room with me so asked her to come in. DS2 was born at 7am, and we stayed in the delivery room until 9pm that night with no pressure at all to move, I think could have stayed all night as they were less busy but by that point ready to go home.

Rooms are lovely - ensuites, flat screen TV, double beds, birth pools (DH and I spent whole day lying in bed reading saturday papers while DS2 dozed.) Totally perfect!

Left hospital at 9pm not having set eyes (or having heard) any other patient AT ALL. Commented to DH that the only difference if private would have been nicer food.
