Stocking up the cupboards?

I'm coming up for 36 weeks and thought i'd better start planning for those first few days/ weeks.

I'm planning a big supermarket shop to get non-perishables and toiletries/ cleaning bits but not sure what to do WRT meals etc.

We have a tiny tiny freezer so not really able to bulk cook and freeze, so apart from pasta/ tins and jars, i'll have no food ready and it'll be takeaways or slaving over the oven as per usual!

Any suggestions? Things i might overlook and forget to stock up on? Any tips?

Thanks ladies! x

When friends offer to come round and say "Is there anything I can do" once baby has been born, say: "Thank you - if you could possibly bring a lasagne or something I'd be very grateful"

Stock up on baked beans! Beans on toast very good.

Oooh, you're very organised!

One thing I wish I'd done before DS arrived was sort out cards and presents for upcoming birthdays etc

DancingOnMyBladder · 03/08/2010 15:22

Well this is DC3 so i've learnt the hard way about not being organised!

Thanks for reminding me about birthdays- my dads is shortly after EDD so should at least get his sorted.

I find it hard to ask for help- like people offer but don't actually expect you to take the up on it. I find myself blurting out 'oh no we've everything we need thank you for asking'- and then shoving DH out the door for milk for tea for the guests. Maybe i'll start a list off and keep it by the phone to remind to say YES!- we need xyz thanks!.

One thing I must do before i get too big (but can't be done too soon!) is get my boys sorted with school shoes. Thankfully my mum has offered to buy them this year so one less expense to worry about!

Apparently in Australia it's common to bring a meal when you visit a new baby. Not to eat with mum, just to help. When this happened to me I started doing this with all my friends - it's lovely to see their faces!
