no, google the June 2010 budget for the exact details

TotorosOcarina · 01/08/2010 11:38

I'm not pregnant yet, just TTC but that grant would been the money which we would have bought everything with (2nd hand though)

Shame

I believe it was the Child Trust Fund that was stopped on July 31st.

vmcd28 · 01/08/2010 21:57

what is a maternity grant? Can anyone get it...?

sarahscot · 02/08/2010 09:40

Is the HIP grant available in scotland too? I've never heard of it before reading about it on here.

vmcd28 · 02/08/2010 20:26

Sarah, yes it's in Scotland too. U get the claim form from yr midwife at the first appointment after 25 weeks pg.
My midwife says it's stopping at the end of the year, tho.

wigglesrock · 02/08/2010 21:34

HIP grant is available in all UK, not means tested, I had heard it was being stopped in April 2011, but then heard a sneaky rumour it was being stopped end of the year too vmcd. You only have 30 days to apply for grant after midwife signs the form.

emmyloo2 · 02/08/2010 21:50

I am in Scotland and I get the HIP grant application at my 28 week mid-wife appointment which is in a couple of weeks.

EmmaKateWH · 02/08/2010 23:22

errr Totoros - I hate to break it to you but your £190 maternity grant will not cover everything you need for a baby!!! I just went to boots to stock up on nappies, wipes, lansinoh, breast pads, sudocrem etc etc and that alone cost £80. Obviously you can buy things cheaper than that but trust me, £180 isn't even going to come close. You shouldn't buy a second hand car seat, for example - a good quality new one will easily set you back £100 leaving you £80 for pram, cot, steriliser, clothes, nappies, changing equipment, bathing equipment, either breast pump or bottles, etc etc.

Vistana · 03/08/2010 17:11

The HIP grant stops on the 1st January 2011, so if you are 25 weeks by the 31st December 2010 you will get it if not then you won't.
You have to claim it within 31days of the form being signed by the midwife/gp so depending on your appointment after you're 25 weeks the forms won't need to be in until feb/march.

In April 2011 the government are scrapping the baby element of the tax credits so most of us will lose out slightly there. But they are upping the child element by £150 which may be better longer term.

The Sure Start Maternity grant (means tested £500) is now limited to your first child only so won't be applicable to op.

Check out the direct.gov.uk website as you can look these things up and get the latest info as it keeps changing

Vistana · 03/08/2010 17:14

Child Trust Fund was reduced as from the 1st August.
No payments for 7 year olds after then and for new babies the fund is only £50. As of the 1st January 2011 it is scrapped completely!

CheeseandGherkins · 03/08/2010 20:01

Has the sure start mat grant changed now as I thought it was April 2011?

lilllysa · 03/08/2010 20:05

Sure start grant changes jan 2011 i believed. Someone posted a link directly to the budget but i'm on my phone atm so can't link

TotorosOcarina · 03/08/2010 20:06

Emma, the grant bought everything 2nd time round as I have cot, moses basket, carseat (maxi-cosi , never been in accident, we don't drive so hardly ever been in car!)

I have a buggy already too.

I have clothes saved.

So yes, £190 will cover most of what I need to buy.

It will be my 4th child so I think I'm OK figuring out what I need and how much it will cost thanks.

Bleh Cant find the link at all now! Maybe it has gone. That would suck

lilllysa · 04/08/2010 09:24

Okies . . Found this PDF of the whole budget and it states -

1.105 From April 2011 the Government will restrict eligibility to the
Sure Start Maternity Grant to the first child only and abolish the
Health in Pregnancy Grant from January 2011. Mothers that are already
pregnant should not be affected.

EmmaKateWH · 04/08/2010 15:40

Totoros - obviously if you already have everything you need the £190 will be enough. I read your post as meaning you were TTC for number 1, obviously that was wrong - no need to be rude about it! My point was that you can't buy everything you need for a baby for £190, which clearly you agree with in any event.
