When did your first baby's head engage?

I'm 38+1 and a bit worried that the baby's head may be too big for my pelvis (I'm 5'0" with size 3 feet, and DH has a big head). There's no sign of the baby engaging yet - I'll ask the midwife about it at this week's appointment, but when did it happen for other people, and if it didn't, did the medical professionals worry?

Mine was brim at 34 weeks and 3/5 at 36, I'm 38 now and still 3/5.

From what I have heard however, the baby doesn't have to engage until labour starts. It's a bit more reassuring if it happens earlier as the baby locks in and you know he's unlikely to turn the wrong way, but it's no problem if he doesn't, and I don't think it is an indicator of a size issue.

Your MW might want to send you for a scan if she thinks your baby might be too big, I don't think she would wait for you to ask, but there is no harm in doing so if you are worried. My mother is 5'0" with size 4 feet and birthed both of us with no issues at all, in 4 hours total labour!

My baby didn't engage until I was in labour. I had a midwife appointment mere hours before my labour began (at 37 weeks) and she wasn't engaged.

Thanks, that's reassuring - will wait and see what the midwife says. I know the baby isn't particularly big overall as I had a growth scan at 32 weeks: it's only the head circumference (which was just above average size) in relation to my (probably quite small) pelvis that's slightly worrying me.
