Could this be SPD or am I being a wimp?

I felt fine throughout my pregnancy with DS but this time if I walk or stand for any length of time I get terrible aching pains in the side of my hips. Is this just normal pregnancy aches and pains, or might it be SPD? I'm 28 weeks

Nope, SPD isn't in your hips, it's in the pelvis. Your hip joints may be feeling the strain of a bit of extra weight though.

My SPD affected the whole of my pelvic region. Have a chat with your GP or midwife and ask for advice.

i had a perfectly normal pregnancy with dd1 until 37 weeks and i thought it was siactica (sp) it was so bad i dragged my leg and could hardly work. my pregnancy with dd2 was some sort of living hell. spd started at 16 weeks and by 28 weeks i was on crutches. the pain was unbearable, it affected my left leg all of my pelvis and actually made my lady bits swell like a rugby ball, all angry red and inflammed. obviously checked out for everything and it was put down to spd. the crutches helped a bit but i paid for a private chiropratcor (cost over £700) to se me twice a week, it only relieved it for 2hr after each session but it was worth it. if it is spd, please have a water birth, i didn't and gave birth lay over the bed as couldn't lie down but standing up was impossible too. plus i always opted for codrymadol (sp) from the gp. my dd1 was only 15 months when dd2 was born and she didn't walk until 2 weeks before the birth!!!!

fingers crossed its not! but no discomfort in pregnancy should be ignored, you are worth a trip to the gp to see if they can refer you to pyshio and painkillers. good luck my love x

There is a pelvic version too. PGP. Google it. They think I have that as the pain is in my hips & at times I can't walk/move without masses of pain but it's not SPD

Thanks all, that's really helpful, I think I will talk to my GP if it gets any worse. It's only just beginning to affect my ability to do things, so I haven't really worried until now, but I've still got a while to go.

chloebe your experience sounds awful, I hope you're okay now

I'd like to mention my SPD started as pain in my left hip so I thought nothing of it. But a few weeks later the pain in my pelvis started... If you think it is starting I recommend sitting on a birthing ball for a bit everyday, doing your pelvic floor, and watch your posture. These help but unfortunately if you are an active person rest is the only thing I find really helps.

Sorry, I assumed when you said hip you meant the ball joint at the top of your leg. I have a lot of arthritic issues so I have hip problems separate to my SPD. Technically the hip joint is not part of the pelvic girdle, PGP will be pain in the pubic symphysis (groin) or sacroiliac joints (bum).
