I am currently on mat leave and have up until December on leave left if I take 9 months. The company that I work for is being bought out and the new company have written to me (well, all the staff!) to say that they will be taking over shortly and that as the companies are amalgamating there will have to be some redundancies. Just wondering if anyone has been in the same situation? Anyone know where I stand?

This is what the website states

Call the Helpline on 08457 47 47 47.

Bondwife- Firstly, the process is likely to take some time. Depending on the size of the company, there is likely to be a full consultation process if it involves a large number of redundancies. It may be worth giving your line manager a call, and asking that he/she keeps you in the loop on the process so you dont miss out.

They may well ask for voluntary redundancies first - often this is requested by the employee representatives- so if you actually want to get made redundant, make sure you find out when this consultation is going to take place.

Secondly, check your contract for any details of redundancy pay- prob wont be anything in concrete but you never know. In any case, in takeover situations you often get a better deal.

Lastly, unfortuantely you cant actually stop yourself being made redundant if your position meets the criteria, but the company does have to follow certain procedures properly- you cant be singled out just for being on mat leave atm, IYSWiM.

Hi,

Just to add, if you are made redundant while on mat leave your employer has to offer you any alternative positions first, before they are offered to anyone else (even more qualified people).
