I'm 36 weeks and was told today that my ALT is high, (four times normal) ALP too, (twice normal) they rechecked and they've increased slightly since the original bloods were taken on Tuesday. I'll get the results of my bile acid test tomorrow.

I have been itchy for a few weeks, mostly at night, but it seems concentrated on bump and breasts and as I've been uber good about not scratching (cold baths help!)I didn't think it was anything serious

The doctor thinks it's cholestasis or perhaps pre-eclampsia (my blood pressure is fine but apparently it can sneak up on you?!) and we'll find out tomorrow when we get the test results. I know tomorrow isn't very far away but I was wondering if anyone had been through something similar and how it turned out?

Also I've been given Chlorphenamine tablets (4mg) to take to stop the itching, the pharmacist said it would probably make bump and I drowsy so not to worry if I felt fewer movements, I'm finding this all a bit scary has anyone had these before?

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Gracie xx

Hi Gracie,

I was diagnosed with Oc at 40 weeks. I had a sever itch for roughly 2 weeks all over my body. It was unbearable. I told my midwife at my 38 week appointment and bloods were taken. I wasnt told the outcome until the following week, when it emerged that my bile levels were high.

Due to the bigh bile levels and the unbearable itching a decision was made for me to be induced. Apparantly when OC is diagnosed, its is common to be induced.

Have no advice on the Chlorphenamine tablets, but I would not take any chances if you notice fewer movements. I would always get any reduced foetal movement checked out. Someone may come along who has been on this medication and disagree.
