I wondered if anyone else thinks they are going a bit mad! Was laid awake for two hours last night fretting over having to drive this week on a dual carriageway for the first time in a while. I am not sleeping well generally during my pregnancy, and have akways been a bit highly-strung, but it feels like even relatively small things are tying me up in knots at the moment. If it makes sense, I am worried that I am so worried! I went from planning the route in my head to crazy panic about crashing and tyres blowing out etc etc. Goodness knows what I am going to be like when it starts getting near the birth. So fellow MNers, any advice on just calming the hell down?!

me too! Before I was pregnant I didn't particularly worry about stuff, but now I can stay awake all night fretting over the smallest thing.

I try to have a bath and read a non-taxing book before I go to bed, to get my mind off of anything worrying me. And it's hard, but when I'm worrying about things I try to focus on how fab it's going to be having my lovely new baby in a few month's time.

If there are specific things (like your car), do whatever practical things you can to ease your fears - why not get your local garage or someone you know who is good with cars to check your tyres, oil, water and other things to minimise the risk?

Keep a notepad by your bed and write down what it is that is bothering you, an then the things you are going to do to sort it out. It might help you sleep a bit better.

If I really can't sleep I get out of bed, wander downstairs, have a glass of water or milk, sit on the sofa for a bit with a book or the TV on quiet, and then go back up to bed when I've calmed down a bit. And if worse comes to the worst I wake up DH and talk it through with him (he thinks I'm crackers as he doesn't worry about anything!).

im totally with you guys! I am truly exhausted but i get into bed and all i can do is worry about this baby. and my DD. it takes me ages to fall asleep and then the very vivid dreams start.. altho some of them are quite distracting ;)

Thanks for the advice ladies. It probably doesn't help that baby decides to do a kicking spree when I am trying to sleep and our house is in uproar because we are having a new bathroom put in. Roll on the holidays!
