With ds1 i craved hot water, drank it althrough the pregnancy. It had to be boiled in the kettle and left to cool for a few mins. With this one i am 19 weeks and no cravings so far just cant stand tea/coffee or chocolate (i was a chocoholic before)

Oatcakes, cheese, apple and Branston Pickle (all together) - and prawn cocktail crisps (not with the above!). I really want sardines on toast too, but as I only like the ones from Carrefour in France, will have to wait until my holidays next week. I wish I was craving tomatoes, basil and mozzarella...

At the start it was fruit smoothies, but now the smell of strawberries makes me feel nauseous. I've also really gone off chocolate and sweet things generally - even fruitjuice/ squashes are a problem. The only ones I can stomachare Bottlegreen Ginger and Lemon Grass, and lime cordial - and then only if the water is really cold. Can't stand any other drinks - even water tastes funny.

Eddy - you can eat smoked salmon, no need for a substitute. Says so on the food standards agency website. so go ahead! Champagne - not sure I can think of a substitute tbh.

I don't get cravings.

nymphadora · 29/07/2010 20:42

I have been fancying Champagne too. Don't drink normally.

Dd1 was oranges and has no particular interest in them. Dd2 was pizza & she lives off them.

Had 1 mozzarella, basil & 12 toms this am and I went out at lunchtime & found gooseberries and have eaten 2 punnets and have 3 more at home.

Is anyone else desperately hungry but not craving anything or craving things and then not wanting to eat them as soon as the food is put in front of them?? I have no real cravings apart from the occassional need to eat boiled fruit sweets (probably just nausea / lack of energy causing that). The worst thing though is waking up at 3am, desperately needing the loo and starving hungry but not wanting to eat anything that we have, not even toast... DH has been great and any time I mention anything he gets it e.g. mentioned sausage and mash and he bought nice gourmet sausages when he was doing the weekly shop but as soon as we cooked them for dinner, I only wanted half a sausage and then felt queasy

It is so weird to be so hungry and not have any real appetite. I'm 9 weeks now so I hope it gets better and some food of some kind starts appealing to me again... the first post mentioned caprese salad, that sounds appealing now but I know if I buy mozzarrella and basil and make it tonight, I won't want it any more... !!

Mine is quite strange, no food cravings but I keep buying sponges. Cant get enough of squeezing wet sponges. Whats that all about???

HevaU · 30/07/2010 12:40

First 8 weeks all i wanted was Pure Orange Juice with lots of bits (More the better) then from 9 - 13 weeks i wanted Cherry Tomatoes with Salt!!!! (Bad Baby) now at 17 + 4 weeks i want magic wands liquorice wands with sherbet in yum yum yum oh and alphabites!

geekygiraffe · 30/07/2010 12:54

First few weeks all I could face were tomatoes in salad cream and then tinned peaches or pineapples. Got through loads of the stuff.
13 weeks now and all I want is everything. The merest mention of a foodstuff and I need it. Yesterday at bedtime I wanted a full English fry-up with bagels and salmon for pudding. I resisted...

slimyak · 30/07/2010 15:40

Brazil nuts - should I shouldn't I? - I'll keep eating them while the jury is out.

Got through the first trimeter on hupa hoops - I needed salty crunchy carbs.

I'm also eating huge amounts of soft fruit. If this continues I shall be severely upset at the end of the summer when I'm offered nothing but apples oranges and bananas.

Hmmm, tomato, moz and basil salad - I want that now.

panic I find your sponge thing fantastically wierd.

My husband is convinced i am going to give birth to an onion due to the sheer amount of silverskins i am going through. Also, our local tesco can't seem to stock enough olives at the moment.

I need to smell petrol all the time. I have actually been found outside sniffing the petrol cap on the car. I'm fairly sure this isn't normal behaviour.

Raahh · 30/07/2010 16:24

I haven't had any cravings really, and at 30 weeks am still struggling to eat generally- but in the past week have really wanted mashed potato and yorkshire puddings.

And since even water is enough to give me heartburn, I took the plunge and had a hot jalfrezi at my local Indian- and felt better than I have in ages!!
