Annoyed with breech bump

Can anyone tell me if shouting "turn round you little sod" is any more effective than lying with my arse in the air or doing elephant-like crawls to the fridge and back? Or if having eaten 3 Gu cheeky pots for lunch will make any difference?

Lol
Worth a try I'd say!

sam26oscar · 27/07/2010 20:58

nope sorry!!!!! if yours anything like my son was, Good luck not a chance in hell of turning! i had him turned at 37 weeks then the little git decided it was well comfy and was 2 weeks late and ended up EMCS anyway!

ethelina · 27/07/2010 21:47

Shit shit shit .

(and I do mean biscuit)

Will cling to the hope that at 35 weeks there's still time...

Got scan tomorrow so we will see.

I physically pushed DD round from a transverse position, so worried was i about a c-section. However she had the last laugh because she ended up back to back and I was in labour for 50 hours!!! Anyway, I know for a fact that chocolate will definitely help you. Please do not ask for scientific proof of this statement, it's an esoteric thing.

plantsitter · 27/07/2010 21:57

Yes chocolate will definitely help - it's proven.

Have some acupuncture even if you don't believe in it - I did and it worked overnight! Well, the baby turned overnight at 37 weeks anyway.

Also an icepack on the top of your bump and somebody crooning invitingly between your legs is good for a laugh even if not actually what did the trick.

ethelina · 27/07/2010 22:04

GingerKirsty You pushed her round yourself? How does that work then?

Plantsitter lol dh likes the idea of crooning between my legs but I'm liking the chocolate more!

Anyway will keep trying & update tomorrow eve...

35 weeks is still time!

DS1 was breech. Turns out he was stuck in the top of my heart shaped uterus and there was no way he would ever turn. Not even with chocolate....

DS2 turned at 37weeks. He was a lot smaller than ds1, so there was room for him to do it.

So, IME, shouting turn around you little sod is probably as effective as any of the other mehtods. ie, not at all!!

ethelina · 27/07/2010 22:15

Oh please let it be so. Will keep with choc though

DS2 was breech until about 36 weeks. The MW kept telling me not to worry there was plenty of time.

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 28/07/2010 07:58

DD was breech and DH spent the whole labour eating chocolate. It helped him, at least...

ethelina · 28/07/2010 09:05

So basically what this means is no matter what else may or may not work, chocolate is fundamental?

OP posts:
gingerkirsty · 28/07/2010 09:13

Well she was across me, agonisingly uncomfortable as her bum and legs were under the ribs on my right hand side and her head on my left hand side. Basically I lay in bed and firmly rubbed downwards over her head and the next day she had turned. Even though she was still in a rubbish position i think back to back is better than transverse as i would have def had a section for that - in the event, I got away with forceps! I don't think it would work with a breech baby really as nothing to push against IYSWIM?

I have heard the frozen peas idea, also shine a torch onto your belly by the baby's head, allegedly they are meant to move away from the light. Acupuncture works incredibly well for some people so def worth a try.

And of course, keep going with the chocolate!

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 28/07/2010 10:07

Just to add, though, a C-section is not necessarily needed for breech babies.

gingerkirsty · 28/07/2010 11:52

Quite right but as I understand it midwives with experience of vaginal breech births are like hens teeth.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/07/2010 17:50

Mine was transverse right at the top of my bump when I had my 32 week scan but no-one was worried! I have been doing the inversions from here and I'm pretty sure he's now head down, although not an expert by any means!

Have also been crawling and just generally on all 4's, transverse babies are supposed to be harder to turn than breech though so I'm trying anything.

Good luck with the chocolate, would be a handy solution!

ethelina · 28/07/2010 19:23

Well scan shows he's breech sitting with legs extended. So obviously comfy then! Head is currently just to left of my belly button facing right.

Thanks for the link Cinnamon. Had a good look at spinningbabies over the last week. Im doing inversion from the stairs and can def feel lots of movement afterwards, but so far he just wont go further than sideways then slowly pops back upright.

Will keep going with elephant-arse crawling and breech-tilt position (that one's a bugger to get into if you're on your own) also will look into acupuncture and someone else suggested homoeopathy not currently sure about that one.

Oh and the chocolate, of course...

My second was transverse and turned the day before my section at 37+6. So I went on to have her 11 days later.

Ds was breech and it was a right bugger. I had SPD so he sat on my tailbone, would put his feet on the front of my pelvis, lodge his head under my sternum and then... stretch! Oh yes, that was good! Had him turned at 37 wks, induced at 38. Was back to back then though. Not a long labour but my word, it was hard work!

FWIW, I used to threaten him. Seems to be relatively unscathed now though!

ethelina · 28/07/2010 20:19

Ooouuch

Was also told to try a cranial oesteopath in case the reason the baby won't get into the right position is my posture/spinal bend. Have found one but as I'm pretty convinced he's moved I'm saving my money, hope I don't regret it!

If you can get him to transverse I have also read about putting frozen peas on the head and something warm in your pelvis to encourage the baby to move to the warmer place. Did try it but not sure which worked!

ethelina · 28/07/2010 21:44

Yeah may give that a go too, or chiropracty. How many weeks are u now? And how did you know when he moved? Think mine's been breech ever since he was big enough to make a guess, so have not felt anything different to compare.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/07/2010 21:56

35 weeks. Had midwife appointment last week and she said head definately down. I can feel something hard in my pelvis whereas before it was totally empty, I literally had no baby below my belly button. He's still moving a lot though, some days I think his backs on my left and other on my right (mainly from where I get kicks and that I think I can feel a spine). I thought it would feel really obvious when he moved but was no more than normal movement I get everyday.

Read lots about babies being transverse into the third trimester changing the shape of the uterus and being difficult to shift. Also he was transverse at my 20 week scan so thought he must not have moved in all that time. Consultant was really not concerned so just keeping my fingers crossed for scan next week.

How far along are you? I have been pretty stressed about it all as they want me to go into hospital before due date and wait to go into labour. DS was 2 weeks late and induced plus I am a childminder and am planning to take 2 weeks off so would bugger that plan!!

ethelina · 28/07/2010 22:49

Oh poor you, why do you need to be in hospital early (if not an impertinent question)?

I'm the other way round - top of head is not much higher than belly button & bump is very low, has always been, so no heartburn at all .

35 weeks tomorrow. Scan today, seeing mw friday. When i asked her about birth options 12 days ago she just said see what the consultant says. Since i have no appointment lined up yet i guess i will have to wait til friday.

I get the distinct impression from MW they wont contemplate a vaginal breech birth and will try to force a CS on me. Not what I want at all hence trying everything possible to turn him.

BTW My SIL was transverse with ds2. They turned him at 37 weeks and watched on the monitor as he turned right back round! She had CS at 39 weeks but not very good recovery so i not keen myself.

They don't want me to go into labour at home in case my waters break because of the risk of the cord coming out first. Because it's my second there's a high chance he will turn during labour as long as I don't loose too much water early on, still a change for vaginal delivery but just means a lot of inconvenience beforehand and could end up with emcs anyway.

Shame they won't consider vaginal delivery, good luck with your scan. It may depend on the type of breech presentation?
