My DD is a little bookworm and over the weekend we bought a book called "There's a house in my Mummy" which she thinks is brilliant and has been talking about since saturday.

I was looking for some more books like this and wonder if anyone had some recommendations?

Also is there a good book for me with regards to looking after 2 children? I know there is probably something Gina Ford has written but would like some other suggestions too. Thank you!

My DD adored How to be a baby - by me, the big sister when I pregnant with DC2.

I found Three shoes, one sock and no hairbrush very interesting. Not exactly practical advice, but very interesting and thoughtful. I know some people on MN found it a bit scary to read while pregnant - but I kept returning to it again and again once DC2 was born (usually muttering things like "see - it's not just me").

We have "Za-za the Zebra's Baby Brother", which seems to be doing the trick of introducing the idea of DC2 to DD. I'm slightly concerned that she might get upset when DC2 turns out not to be stripy....

this was fab, the children would ask to look all of the time.

OP, you don't need a book. Loving them both will help you to do the right thing.

What's the age gap going to be?

Theres 21mths between my two. DD2 is now 10 weeks and this book still comes out reguarly

topsy and tim

This one was also good for us as it has Granny coming to stay when Mummy and Daddy go to hospital which is what we planned/did. Also talks about scans ect.

new baby

As for you, I never read any books about having two..I never really had much time too. I have found little DD2 has just fitted in with our daily routine and you just deal with other things ect the best you can. Theres always Mumsnet

The two I used with my DS who was 2.5 when DD was born were Mummy Laid and Egg which is fab but a bit graphic on one particular page so I would skip past that bit when reading it to him. The other one was What's in your tummy mummy which he really loved.

We had one called Sophie and the New Baby which was quite sweet.

I read the Two Hairbrushes (etc) book when pregnant with dd2 and it did scary the beejeezus out of me. But when I looked back at it after dd2 was born, I realised a lot of it was true (and a lot not, everyone's experience is different). I don't think you need to read it before the baby comes to be honest. But reading it afterwards, like Piprabbit says, can be quite comforting to know you are not alone...

My DD1 loved this one. It has stickers, which is a massive plus in her eyes.

Doodleydoo · 26/07/2010 20:18

Thanks guys, looks like I have got some of the right ones, have that sticker book Butterpie so that is good and will search out the others - might try out the library and see what they have.

Will have just over 2.5 years between the 2 and I think that dd will be quite excited about the new arrival but you just never know - keep hearing horror stories from some friends (but that being said, one friend has a nightmare child who was v difficult whereas dd is quite chilled really!)

I just wondered about the book for having 2 but actually probably won't follow a routine for the second - but maybe a few hints on how to deal with jealousy if it occurs!

I have 2.5 years between mine and it was fine. Now DD is almost 2 and DS is 4.5 they are brilliant friends.
