I am 23 weeks + 2 days and have gained around 1 stone 10lbs. Considering the fact that I actually lost half a stone in the first trimester, I must be putting it on fairly rapidly.

How is everyone else doing?

Palace39, thank you. I suspect I'll be right up there with you in the four stone stakes by the time I'm at that stage.

daisystone · 27/07/2010 17:18

Comtessa we wound very similar. Roughly the same stage of pregnancy and weighing nearly the same and having put on about the same!

How tall are you?

7lbs at 24 weeks but I was big to start with so don't need to be laying down any fat or anything. Would say my eating habits are pretty much the same as they were before except maybe I am trying to eat more fruit and veg.

Madasajarofwasps · 27/07/2010 22:27

8+2 weeks and half a stone on already - eek! But I know why this is, I ran a marathon in April and was running 30 -40 miles a week. Now I am pg I am too tired to run and am eating more to combat the nausea so you don't have to be a genius to work out why I am gaining weight so quickly - more calories and less exercise. Once I feel up to getting my trainers back on and the nausea subsides I hope to get it under control

Petsville · 27/07/2010 22:33

1 stone 3 lb at 38 weeks - I reckon that's about right as I'm very short, DH is short and the midwife doesn't think the baby will be big. Still depressed about it though: I feel like a hippo (though at least a reasonably fit hippo).

Pidgin · 28/07/2010 07:34

I am 25+5 and got on the scales for the first time since the end of the first trimester this morning. I have put on exactly 2.5 stone altogether.

I had a BMI of 21 before pregnancy and used to run - I stopped proper exercise in the first trimester because I was exhausted and also had a massive appetite. This has reduced now but I think I got into bad habits.

I'm not that worried about losing the weight, because I know it will go if I exercise and eat healthily, but I have just heard a man on the radio banging on about the risks of obesity in pregnancy and I am hoping I haven't harmed the baby . Seeing the MW on Friday so will ask her about it then.

Does it seem like tall women put on more weight, then? I am 5' 9" .

stickchildren3 · 28/07/2010 08:20

PIDGIN I heard that man too banging on about only needing to eat 100 extra calories in the last few months of pregnancy and at no other time should you be 'eating for two'. At 37 weeks with 2 DC already under 5 I woke up in rather a foul mood!! Where the hell are you supposed to get your energy from to create a baby then? We'd all end up stones lighter if we took this advice! I've probably put on an average amount of weight this pregnancy and have eaten huge amounts (good and bad)!

Pidgin · 28/07/2010 08:30

Thanks for the solidarity stickchildren3! I'm ashamed to say he made me cry while I was eating my breakfast - now that's not good for the baby, is it?! I think I'm going to stay off the scales from now on. I know crying is an over-reaction (blame the hormones), but I do think that repeatedly saying that over-eating in pregnancy can cause birth complications and fetal death is a bit irresponsible.

sophieandbelly · 28/07/2010 08:36

so glad i read this thread was starting to feel like a beast!! about 2 stone and iam 30 weeks this week.

having elcs in 8 weeks so hope i dont gain to much more!! will be straight bk to slimming world when bubba arrives!!!

bunnymother · 28/07/2010 08:37

Just yet another example of people treating a pregnant womans body as public property. Ignore ignore ignore.

Last pregnancy went from 55kg to 77kg. Lost it again just in time to fall pregnant w twins. Am 19 weeks and put on 5kg so far. No doubt will pile it on before I am done.

stickchildren3 · 28/07/2010 08:37

Quite! I can imagine we weren't the only pregnant women in the country waking up to feel guilty this morning and like I said I'm pretty average! Like you say, maybe it's just the hormones but it didn't stop me ranting at the radio..' well I'd like to see a man grow a human being for 9 months on a few extra slices of toast!' ROAR!

Wallace · 28/07/2010 08:40

23+1 and have finally got back up to the weight I was before I was pregnant

Pidgin · 28/07/2010 08:41

Yes! If men got pregnant they would probably get to lie in front of the telly for 9 months with pizza deliveries every three hours! We can't grow babies on '2 slices of toast and a milky drink', wankers!

Feel better now, thank you.

Antidote · 28/07/2010 08:49

Phew!

Just finished (healthy) breakfast of yoghurt & piece of toast, livid that my favourite health organisation (NICE) had managed to severely piss me off for the day. Very reassuring to find MN full of others looking at the scales and thinking Hmmmmmmmmm.

30 weeks, 74Kg pre, now 82Kg i.e. 8Kg/1 stone 3lb.

A lot of this I am sure is because I usually cycle 80 miles a week to work, and sail every weekend but that just hasn't been happening since the nausea & exhaustion kicked in at week 9!

I like the idea of the WW breastfeeding plan.

Madasajarofwasps · 28/07/2010 10:30

I heard the radio to this morning grrrrrr . Why do you feel so hungry when pg if you are not meant to eat?? Just another thing to worry about when we have enough to worry about already. A balanced diet is key and I would imagine frightening pg women to eat less could well be detrimental too. Go with the flow and listen to your body I say. And if my body says I need chips and cheese toasties then so be it .

comtessa · 28/07/2010 11:31

Hello all, Palace39 I'm 5' 8". Pre-pregnancy weight 11st 3lbs, size 12. Now 13st 2lbs, size 12 maternity clothes.

Madasajarofwasps IKWYM! All I wanted in the first three months was plain pancakes, plain potatoes and bread. I wasn't consciously low-carbing before getting PG but this was a total change from my previous eating habits, and of course it was my body needing carbs to support the growing baby. Listening to one's body is just so important.

comtessa · 28/07/2010 11:32

PS I think it's so important to keep in all in perspective too. I was starting to really worry a couple of days ago, but then my DH keeps pointing out, whenever I mention size or weight, that it's not me getting bigger, it's the baby getting bigger. Which is a good way to see it. Helped me anyway!

comtessa · 28/07/2010 11:34

PPS My friend gave birth two weeks ago - and has already lost about 16lbs just through BFing. Looking forward to that part!

catherinewho · 28/07/2010 11:55

38 weeks and have put on 1 and a half stone (but really only 1 stone after taking into consideration the half a stone I lost with morning sickness).

I blame the fact that I have had no cravings at all and the baby squashing my stomach means I can't fit as much food in it.

Palace39 · 28/07/2010 13:41

The way i see it, if I feel hungry, that means i'm hungry, so i'm going to bloody well eat. Sod the 'obese police', i think i know what i need better than they do.

Despite my additional 4 stone, i don't feel guilty, i am eating healthily, and will embark on a very controlled and slow weight loss plan once kiddo has arrived. I'm not in any rush to lose it, it will come off as and when. I will go back to the gym but i did that beforehand anyway for the 'feel good factor' not because i want to be a stick within a couple of weeks.

My pre-pregnancy jeans aren't going anywhere in the meantime.

It would be nice if the news would stop scaring people with thoughts of stillbirth today if they have too many slices of toast..

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 28/07/2010 14:22

I heard that on the news too and felt terrible. Glad to see they have provoked similar anger in others! I really feel they should think before compiling these news reports.

redbird79 · 28/07/2010 14:33

That bloke from NICE really wasn't well, very 'nice' was he? I have felt my appetite come and go throughout pregnancy. In the beginning I ate very little as I felt so sick, and what I did eat was very limited- if anyone had come near me with a milky drink I would've found an alternative use for it!! Now 26w I have been eating like mad, healthy stuff and unhealthy stuff, and certainly much more than before. But have also noticed that it seems correspond to little growth spurts- have put on a slimmer-fitting top today and my bump looks HUGE compared even to last week. I also have heard that later on you feel less hungry because of a lack of space- as catherinewho says.
