Big knickers and something to absorb nipple juice in the nights. Nobody bought these things for my wife and for once it isn't me leaving odd stains on the bedding.

nipple jucie

ok so will add breast pads.

any more?

If she was a drinker - maybe something non-alcoholic but yum to replace her wine (or drink of choice). Elderflower cordial perhaps? I also can't get enough of lovely moisturisers - people keep giving them to me but I love it! My husband gave me a crabtree and evelyn body butter and it's amazing.

Dark chocolate as it's full of iron so you can pretend it's good for you.

Nice creams / lotions and potions that are good for preg - Neal's yard do some nice mum to be stuff.

Accessories - necklaces, bracelets, scarves and earings all play an important role in your maternity wardrobe when you're feeling fat and wearing the same clothes day after day.

Mrlee big knickers and breast pads useful but hardly something you want gift wrapped.

I think the best thing your friends can do, especially with your first pregnancy, is make sure there are still some social activities that you can and will still go along to. If you have regualr nights out how about a calendar of things that include cinema, theatre, eating out - maybe throw in some lunch time dates and a bit of supportive Christmas shopping setting aside a week day in Autumn. This might seem a bit over planning but it's nice to have things to look forward to. Also, I'm due in January and know that my usual December dash for Christmas will be almost impossible. We're having a girly weekend away at the end of September and I plan to do the bulk of my shopping in this high energy (haha) phase with lots of tea stops and other people to help me carry stuff if need be.

A large bottle of gin.

I had some lovely stretch mark cream from Green Baby and I had a lovely smooth bump.

Would also suggest 'Active Birth' by Janet Balaskas. (although if she's only just pregant, it might be a wee bit scary!)

some pregnacare or similar vitamins?

What a lovely idea

there is a brand of smellies called lazy cow, their lavander candles are amazing, i still buy them now as they remind me of the magic of expecting my babies. my sister bought them for me x

Belvoir Cordials - a bit of luxury cordial that makes having a drink a touch more exciting and they look pretty too. Think available in most supermarkets!

What a lovely thing to do.

Candles are a nice idea. As is pampery stuff - I'd recommend Phytaoil or Phytalotion over Bio Oil though. It's all natural, not petrochemical based, and contains rosehip extract and vitamin E. It feels great, smells much nicer than Bio Oil and really does work on stretchmarks. If you don't feel like splashing out on a whole bottle you can pick up free samples at the mo from their website - www.phytacol.com/

I loved the book called the Yummy Mummies Survival Guide which I got after I'd given birth and it was the most truthful guide to pregnancy and birth ever and it really made me smile!

Body butter, bath oils, nice smelly candles (don't get cheap ones though as they can smell chamical-ly and when pregnant your sense of smell can go insanely sensitive!). A maternity top. Jewellery/accessories (to dress up boring comfy maternity outfits). Mum-to-be massage voucher?

mrsseed · 26/07/2010 16:02

voucher for pedicure for when she can't get to her feet easily anymore!
