++++4 glucose in urine - how likely is it I have GD?

I had a urine test on Thursday at the midwife's and it came back with ++++4 glucose. That morning I had fruit * fibre cereal with half a banana and skimmed milk for breakfast, 2 hours before my urine test.

My sister had GD in both her pregnancies.

I've got a fasting GTT test on Monday and just wondered how likely it is that it will come back with a diagnosis of GD?

Thanks!

Oh, forgot to mention, I'm 26 weeks if that makes any difference!

TBH, if there was a two hour wait between your breakfast and the urine test it does sound like quite a high reading - cant really say until youve had your GTT but i have had GD in all 4 of my pgs and now have type 2 diabetes permanently, hope you dont have GD but if you do its easily sorted out with diet or insulin (and its only temporary) The urine tests arent that reliable from what ive heard anyway, just wait and see what your GTT throws up but i probably would prepare for a GD diagnosis if i were you.

Let us know how it goes - fingers crossed for you.

Don't know about the readings but I had GD in my last pregnancy and can honestly say it was the best thing that could have happened to me in terms of my general health - the whole family ate better as a result!

Really hope you don't have GD but if you do it's not the end of the world - just eat the right stuff (which is what we all should be eating anyway). I freaked about having to inject insulin (loads of folk with GD don't have to so don't freak) but got used to it very quickly - and I'm a bit phobic about needles.

Keep us posted!

If you're peeing out that much sugar 2 hours after eating then it's quite likely you have GD.

The GTT will show for sure, but don't be alarmed if you get a positive result. You will be well looked after if you have GD

Thanks everyone for your help and support, I'll report back after my test tomorrow.

my daughter had an apple, and a pear and then a fruit shoot and did her test which came back very high..we blamed the fruit shoot as she doesnt usually have them but there was nothing else.

next test came back clear thankgoodness,so hopefully you will be the same good luck for tomorrow.

Just a quick heads up. I had a GTT a few months back and all that sugar on an empty stomach(I had to drink lots of flat lucozade original) made me feel really hot, dizzy, sweaty and faint. I was fine an hour later but it would of been nice to have been forewarned.

I have been diagnosed with GD and am hopefully seeing the diabetics team on Wed, just waiting for them to call me.

As an aside, my wee is now bright yellow! I assume this is due either to the bright yellow glucose drink I had or the fact I didn't have much fluid?

With both my girls I had high glucose in my routine urine tests throughout my pregnancy. ( +3 or 4)

Both times they have been concerned I had GD and had to be re-tested around 34 weeks. Thankfully they all came back clear and the midwife put it down to the fact that its just the way my body deals with it in pregnancy.

It was definaetly a worry. I cut out all sugars for one week to see if it made a difference and it did... I got an even higher reading!!

Anyway since then my dad has been diagnosed as diabetic so guessing im pretty likely to get it when im older

Not sure on the truth but my mum told me that Dads diabetic nurse told him that sugars take 24 hours to leave your system so it could of been something you ate the night before that gave you a high reading.

Hi all - my results came back and I do have GD (although I was only just over the limit at 8.1 after the glucose drink). I've got to finger prick 7 times a day (before and after meals and once before bed) and keep a food diary and am going back next week.

They said that what I was eating already was pretty much okay but with a couple of tweaks so luckily I haven't had to give up anything too much yet (just changed fruit & fibre for porridge, and more veg and less carbs at dinner). I also walk 2 miles a day with my dog.

So far, all my readings have been within the limit, but I was wondering, seeing as I am only 26+5, I've got quite a way to go yet, and I've read somewhere that your blood sugar levels rise the further on you get, so I was wondering whether even if keeping up a good diet and exercise, my levels will rise and I will eventually have to go on insulin anyway?

Thanks all!

Actually, I've just realised, my pre-meal readings have been 4.5, 5.1, 5.4, 6.6 and 5.5 so thats not actually that great! Post-meal have been 7.1, 4.5, 6.8 and 7.3.
