Gestational Diabetes screening results high

I am 29 weeks pregnant and had my GD screening test 2 weeks ago. The results have come back high and I now need to attend a glucose tolerance test in a few days time. Annoyingly the letter doesn't tell me what the results were so that I can determine for myself how high. How worried should I be that I have developed GD?
None of the urine samples have shown any indication of high sugar
I have no family history of diabetes.
I was slightly overweight when I fell pregnant but not enough to warrant the hospital wanting to refer me to anyone.
My diet has been really good throughout in terms of fruit and veg consumed but I have indulged in a pudding 3 times a week for the last few months.
I havent exercised as much in the last 2 months because of SPD.

My midwife told me that sugar in your urine is a very late sign and that's why they like higher risk people to have the GTT.

A friend of mine has GD and is regulating by diet, which involves reducing carbs a lot but she is maintaining her levels without medication. You should get a print out of the results from GTT, I did but didn't have an earlier screening but with no reference so I only know that I was within normal range.

Mamjo, I'm afraid only the GTT will give you a diagnosis or not. As cinnamon greyhound says sugar in the urine is really not a great indicator one way or the other. Diet in pregnancy doesn't affect whether you develop GD or not either (it is not caused by eating too much sugar!)- it's basically just luck of the draw.

I'm 34 weeks into my second GD pregnancy and have remained diet controlled both times. If your GTT does show up a problem come and join us on the support thread here. You'll find lots of good tips about a GD diet.

Thank you ladies , thats really helpfull. i need to just stop being impatient and wait for the results and try not to worry too much in teh meantime.

Whatever you do mamjo please don't worry about it. Worst case scenario is pretty much 12 weeks of an enforced healthy diet and a couple of extra appointments at the hospital. It can feel pretty overwhelming at first, but that's basically all it boils down to.
